3/18/18 – 6-foot-4, 215lb, XL, durable, MLB pitcher type frame with power coming from his legs. Currently, Champlain is ranked 29th overall in his 2018 class, and 59th on PBR's top 100 draft list. He features an over the top delivery with live arm and an explosive 91-94 2-seam FB, touching 95, a sharp, late-breaking CB that induces a lot of weak contact at 74-76, and a fading CH that looks like his FB out of the hand at 80-83. Champlain is not a pure strike thrower, but his command will improve with slight mechanical adjustments. At times he crossfires, and pulls his FB along with a tendency to open his hips up early. Champlain is a fierce competitor with a high ceiling.

2/17/18 - Southern California commit. 6-foot-4, 215-pound frame that is prototypical of a power pitcher. Well proportioned strength throughout his frame. Champlain is a well-known prospect in Southern California circles for some time now. Came out firing in the first inning touching 95 mph once and sat 91-93. The pitch lacked the movement and command we've seen in the past, but was effective in producing soft groundouts. Velocity dropped later in the game before ramping back up in the fourth inning where he was back at 91-92 mph. Champlain's curveball, a pitch that projects as a plus pitch, worked 75-76 mph early in his outing. He settled in with the pitch at 72-73 mph. Showing a two-plane movement, Champlain unleashed two curveballs that were unhittable that flashed more the 12-6 shape.
7/10/17 - Named to Team USA 18U trials roster.
7/1/17 - Logged four innings. He gave up two runs on three hits and struck out five. His fastball started out 90-92, touching 93, and settled in at 88-90. His arm slot is high-3/4 to over the top and he has a high leg kick. His curveball showed sharp break with 11/5 shape and depth. Champlain also showed athleticism, getting off the mound well to make a couple plays, including throwing out SS Brice Turang (Santiago HS, CA) on a bunt attempt in which he got down the line in 3.79 seconds.
