Area Code Tryouts - Miami commit. Born continues to impress with his effortless athleticism and ability to do everything well. His BP rounds were crisp and he squared up the ball consistently with more authority than I have seen in the past. Born was peppering balls all over the field which transferred into the game where he took multiple quality at-bats. The defense and his ability to track balls in the gaps are second to none. Born glides to the ball and covers a huge area. The arm is improving as well displaying accurate, online throws with carry often one hopping the mitt. Posted a 7.02 60-yard dash, and exhibited awareness and instincts on the base paths in the live session.
SoCal Underclass Games - Five-foot-10, 165-pounds, long, lean, strong frame with long limbs. One of the top players in his class, Born showed incredibly well at the SoCal Underclass Games. An athletic outfielder, Born glides around in the outfield showing excellent range to both sides. Charges balls well and under control. Arm is plus with accuracy. Made a diving catch in-game on a ball that was squared up right at him with tailing action. Born caught it and rolled up to his feet ready to throw. At the plate Born continues to show that power may be an element of his game in the future. Shows excellent feel for the barrel while maintaining his path throughout his swing. Quiet to launch position. Stays behind the curveball well.
1/12/18
Uncommitted. Got eyes on Born for the first time and he immediately made his presence known. A lean right handed hitting outfield - he's appears more comfortable batting left handed - Born has fast hands that he keeps close to his body. Showed the ability to drive an inside fastball to the other way while keeping the barrel in the zone on an even path. An above average runner - he was 3.4 on a steal, and 7.63 2nd to home - Born shows natural instincts on the base paths. His arm plays up and projects to get stronger as he matures physically. Threw a runner out at home with a strong, online throw that had some carry.
2018 Underclass Area Code Games - Miami commit. Everything was fast over quick. It all looked really good, but didn't click for him often over the course of the weekend. Direct path to the ball with the ability to spray line drives to all fields. Controlled in the box. He seems to do everything right. A guy you like a little more each time you see him, Born is a calculated and balanced hitter.
