Fresno Easter Classic (4/15 - 4/17/2019) - Washington State Commit. Defensive skills were very impressive using athletic skills behind the plate blocking balls and with footwork on throws to 2nd base. Trusts the average arm and willing to flick balls behind runners getting one for back-pick; 1.95-2.10 Pop times between inning regularly on the bag with 76-78 mph velocity. Showed athleticism and game knowledge getting to 3rd base when it was unoccupied on drag bunt preventing runner from advancing. Big 2B to tie the game on slash pulling ball past 1B. Swing works inside though got a little long vs hard throwing left-handed pitcher on 4/17, maintains good balance throughout swing, there is projectable power present. Does employ guess approach at times and it didn't work out so well vs a future D1 pitcher (Fondtain). Defensively was outstanding, soft hands, agile and ability to receive all pitches in all quadrants, presents great target, pops out of crouch well, doesn't have to perform at 100% max to access his tools. Very likely to be a draft follow for 2020 draft. / 1st viewing; Athletic catcher, quiet receiver, soft hands, who moves well with average arm 2.01-2.19 in between innings. Smooth LHH swing with some power in it; shows good feel for barrel and ability to control it favoring pullside.
