Johnson is another player who after multiple viewings continues to impress with his play. The smaller frame has strength and quickness showing athletic actions and some projection for the next level. During BP he was regularly working the oppo gap and middle field with line drives that translated over to games where he was right on good FB’s all day. The high hand set up has more of a rocking load allowing for quick turns producing an upward bat path; when he gets the barrel out front he can whip it to the pullside as well. In his first AB he was right on good FB’s, fouling off a couple before ultimately swinging through a CHG; long fly-out in 2nd AB to drive in a run. In the OF the athleticism was there being able to open the hips and move fluidly; can continue to remove the drift back on the ball, especially when the wind is whipping like it was during the game. I like the profile more for the middle of the field, but have seen him make plays in both RF/LF as well.

FALL BALL
Medium frame with a high waist and compact, lean muscle build; very athletic build and actions on the field. Showed some two-way abilities with a strong arm that can fit multiple spots. At the plate works with a high hands setup utilizing a hand pump to get momentum in the swing; quick bat that is long in the zone through a balanced swing getting the back hip going. In the OF he shows solid range making plays from RF during the game; the arm fits the corner profile with compact, quick actions. Arm strength translates to the mound where he worked two scoreless innings. Hands stay at chest with slow, waist-high leg lift; allows compact M-3/4 release to work cleanly out of the glove and out in front flashing some whippy actions. Uses the hips well and has firm front leg upon landing down the hill. FB 79-83 T84 moving to both sides of the plate with arm side run and cut to the glove side. SLD 71-73 in 2-to-8 shape with tight spin; cross-plate actions flashing depth. Attacked hitters and got some weak contact during the outing while striking out 2.
7/19/18
Upperclass tourney - Smallish left handed pitcher that works 79-81 range with typical lefty movement that topped out at 82 mph. Could see a tick up to mid-80s at some point, arm speed is there. Tight breaking ball with downward bite that is thrown at 69 mph. Athletic runner with good pop for his size. Short compact swing at the plate
