Cape Cod: Made six relief appearances this summer, totaling just seven innings, but showed an impressive ability to keep hitters guessing and off balance. The fastball registered just 89-90 mph, generally, but he paired it with an average, slurvy breaker in the low-80s with tight action and good pitch plane deception off the heater. He also dropped in an occasional changeup with soft, arm-side action. He should return to Nevada’s rotation next spring where he will look to build upon the strides he made this summer in executing his breaker and spotting his fastball

NorCal ProCase Spotlight

Fresno Easter Classic - (St. Mary’s) from Consumnes Oaks showed very well in his 3IP. Wide shoulders with lean lower half and tight waist projecting more space in the near future. Loose, quick arm showing length behind his back before 3/4 release using his hips and lower half smoothly moving down the hill. FB 85-87 T88 MPH with life through the zone flashing small cut to the glove-side. Commanded FB well to all quadrants; attacked inner half on hitters. SLD 77-80 MPH showing late bite; times where pitch would sweep through the zone. Showed best one going to the back-foot against LHH with action late at the plate. CHG 80-82 MPH with hard sink; flashed feel going back-to-back. One ball hit hard in 3 innings creating lots of weak contact getting 5 ground-balls and 2Ks; changed speeds and sequences keeping hitters uncomfortable. Arm will show more as he was at 3rd base over previous 3 games. Showed strength in wrists during AB’s keeping hands tight on ball to LF before deep sac fly to RF to help score a run.

St. Mary's commit; one of the area's rapidly developing juniors  has made a steady climb/jump recently as he is now pitching in the upper-80s and sniffing around 90 mph. In this one, he was a steady 87-88 mph with range of 85-89 mph. Real quick arm, loose, athletic delivery like that of an infielder (which he is) and life on all his stuff. His arm action, along with his size (5-foot-11 175-pounds) had me thinking of Jake Peavy. Now, that's not get carried away and make the Peavy talent comp, rather just what was brought to my mind. At its best the fastball was well located on the glove side, with some come-back life and on the arm side he has the ability to get some sink action. Attacks hitters aggressively though did occasionally lose his front side when going away to right-handed hitters and yanked a few fastballs. His breaking ball is a knuckle curveball that has tight spin and good bite, shaped like a slider with late tilt when he was on-time. It's a swing and miss breaker and also capable of getting soft contact or buckling a hitter. Threw a few change-ups as well, 82 mph, and it came out of his hand nicely. Good athlete, fields position well and very capable at the plate (hits in the 3-hole).

Fall tournament - Lean and well-built 6-foot-0, 175-pounds, frame has ample room to fill out and add strength, bat speed and strength stood out, swing path and timing are good, hit tools look the part.
