2/12/19

vs Clovis North - Uncommitted. Second viewing in last few weeks, fastball in this outing (which was first game of season) was 83-86 mph, stayed in that range through his four innings. Did plenty of things well in this outing but also wasn't as sharp as he would want to be. Line was 4 IP, 2 H, 3 ER, 3 K, 5 BB, 2 HBP but it really didn't feel like that. Got squeezed a bit on some really well-thrown pitches, froze some hitters on those offerings but some ended up in walks vs outs. Lots of aggressive fastball action inside to right-handed hitters, fearless on that half of the plate even after hitting a player a bit too high early on. Was willing to go back in there and did so well. Slider was 72-73 mph and a little flat, perhaps an adjustment to get fingers more to front of ball would add more tilt and make it more curveball like. Throws strikes with it but lacked bite to finish hitters. Gutsy outing, routinely pitched out of trouble and with many runners on base. There will be better days ahead as he remains a good uncommitted pitcher to know of. There is still some ceiling to reach.

1/27/19

PBR N CA Preseason All-State - A noticeable 6-foot-3 190-pounds, good frame with ability to hold size and strength, well-proportioned with sloping shoulders and still has room to put on some position size, calm repeatable delivery, easy lift gets knee a bit higher than waist, syncs up separation well with downward move to his stride, on-line stride and good lower body stability allows him to get to extension and feel his pitches out front, good arm strength means he doesn't have to force the ball, maintains steady head, looks to be a good candidate to gain velocity as the spring heats up, fastball (T84) with control to different spots, breaking ball with slider type action (71-72 mph) has good and occasionally tight spin with late break, has potential to be a swing and miss pitch, change-up (77 mph) thrown with feel and occasional cut action. Three quality pitches, good delivery, good body, has a chance to come on this spring.

8/01/18

6-foot-2, 195-pounds, medium-large frame with strength throughout, high waist, long limbs, large feet, and sloped shoulders and large feet. May not be done growing. Keeps hands connected at waist as he initiates delivery before getting to his high-3/4 slot release point. Arm action is loose and easy. Drives down the mound using lower half very well. Mechanics are repeatable and consistent. Slot and arm speed (quick) are the same with all pitches. Fastball shows slight action on a downhill plane which he pounds to both sides of the plate. Slider shows 10/4 shape with late action which he commands well. Keeps his changeup down in the zone while flashing armside run and commanding to both sides of the plate.

3/26/18

Uncommitted. 6-foot-2, 190-pound frame that projects for further growth. Large feet, square shoulders, proportional strength that is well distributed through the entire frame. Long limbed, loose, whippy arm. Fastball shows late life through the zone, cuts in on right-handed hitters hands. Working 83-85 mph and touching 87 twice, the fastball projects for added velocity given his clean mechanics and repeatable delivery. Gallardo flashed a sharp, sweeping slider that really projects as a future plus pitch. The pitch shows late diving action and comes from the same high-3/4 arm angle as his fastball. Gallardo settles his weight on his back side before a mild shoulder turn allows him to whip his arm through. Showed some moxie in recovering from a command issue in the game where he was able to regroup and begin pounding the zone.
