Riverside Co. Preseason All-State: First viewing of Marinez since the summer the first thing that stood out was just how physical he looks in uniform. After posting a 7.22 laser-timed 60, Martinez showed why he is locked in on a big time sophomore season. Showed more consistent power at the plate where he drove several balls to the wall of three different parts of the field. Uses a simple setup with a slight leg lift. Hands rock back before driving the barrel through the zone. Barrel stays in zone and on plane for a long time. Gets extended through to a balanced finish. In the outfield his athleticism really plays up and is paired with his big arm (84 mph) that showed pinpoint accuracy. 

Los Angeles Open - Martine is an athletic player who showed well in the outfield, at the plate, and on the mound. The freshman ran a 7.22 60-yard dash to open things up before getting into the batter's box where he showed a middle approach with quick-to-fast bat-to-ball skills. Sets up balance and quiet; it's a simple setup and go. Showed feel for the barrel by spraying line drives to all fields. In the outfield he showed good body control and athleticism in charging/gathering balls. His arm has present strength with accuracy from a high-¾ slot. Arm is fast which he showed on the mound where he's raw but oozes projection. The righties arm is whippy and loose from a full arm path through to the same high-¾ slot as he shows in the outfield. His command of all pitches was erratic but all three flashed above average at one point or another and all coming from the same arm speed. Fastball shows late running action - almost changeup like movement. His curveball was sharp with hard action late while his changeup was a softer fastball.

Los Angeles Open - Five-foot-10, 150-pounds. Has a lean athletic frame, young body, with time to physically mature. Ran a 7.22 60-yard dash. At the plate, he showed a balanced set-up with a smooth load and a leg kick for a load and a medium stride. He uses his lower half well as he explodes to-and-through the ball from a balanced setup. He showed quick-to-fast hands at the plate to turn on the ball, a good approach, in/out bat path. Shows rhythm and fluidity at the plate. From the outfield he shows good arm strength, as he has loose arm action, throwing from a ¾ arm angle. He has some carry on his throws velo was(79 ). His throw was regularly online, as he used the crow hop well, as he gets his body behind the ball. He has fluid footwork and a good exchange.
