10/18/13 - Physical presence with barreled chest, wide shoulders and proportional strength to match throughout; looks the part of MLB talent currently. #2 on PBR Draft Top College 150 and reigning Golden Spikes award winner. Wide stance at the plate utilizing slight crouch while body creates tempo and timing with rock back and foot bounce; hands stay in time with body as bat bounces off back shoulder with wide elbows. Body loads deep into back hip with high front leg tuck; stance and swing reminiscent of Josh Donaldson. Shows impressive separation between lower and upper half of body while keeping hands back in position to fire even when taking pitches. Plus-plus bat speed with ability to regularly be on-plane showing adjustability to multiple pitches and locations; drives back knee through the ground allowing back hip to help turn full body and “show his number” upon completion of swing. Understands situations and showed an excellent selection of pitches; willing to take his walks when not given anything to hit. During viewing was off in his timing just missing squaring up the ball during multiple ABs; Fringe-average runner (4.62 H-1st) with shorter, choppy step that looks like it could be faster when needed. Average range at 1st matches with average arm; showed ability to be athletic around the base and utilize soft glove on balls in the dirt. Bat will carry profile showing controlled violence in the swing and looked the part of the top hitter in College Baseball.

7-11-2018: Absent for two days from the CNT while collecting his hardware in Los Angeles for the Golden Spikes Award, Vaughn looked to be the best of the best hitters in all of college baseball. Scouts look for hitters who are short to the ball with power to all fields, and that’s precisely what Vaughn brings to the park. He set up with a even stance in the back of the box. Used a leg kick for timing/load, although he seemed to rush getting his foot back down to the ground at times. Combined good balance with great strength and bat speed. Separated well, was short to the ball, long through the zone and had good extension to finish his swing. Took quality at-bats and produced consistent, solid contact. Vaughn has a superior track record of hitting, especially this past spring when he slashed .402/.531/.819 for the Cal Bears. Showed an average to above arm with average defensive abilities at first base. At 5-foot-11 he does not have the perfect physical profile for the position, but his bat does. Expect him to be an early pick on Day One of the 2019 draft. (Seifert)
3/21/18 - 2019 draft eligible. Calm and hitterish presence in the box, he knows what he wants to hit and works to do his damage in counts he can control... fastball hunter in 3-1, 0-0 counts, has excellent hand-eye coordination, ready to hit with lower half on each pitch. Power plays as explosive drives that go over the fence vs loft type power that wouldn't play as well with wood bats vs professional stuff. Controls strike zone and possesses elite barrel awareness. moves on from at-bat to at-bat well, great dugout presence with teammates, genuinely seems to love being at the yard. Big thick strong kid, built like a Dan Uggla type, has an above average arm, hands good at 1st base, my wonder is why he is a 1B and not a 3B. His role on defense will be a big factor in how scouts see him for 2019 draft. But the hit tool, usable power and control of the zone will make him not only a darling of scouts in the stands, and of the analytics crowd as well; low K totals, high walk totals, with consistent power production.
