2/11/2020 @ San Mateo:Morones was getting his first game work of the season and even with a short outing you could see some upside in the loose and easy arm and frame. Standing at 5-11, 185 the lean frame shows length in the limbs with a higher waist giving him athletic proportions and some space to add a bit more strength. The delivery keeps his hands at the waist with tall posture on an average knee lift before having some drift and allowing the full arm swing to move through the 3/4 release quickly with loose actions in the arm. The front leg was firm but too often he was over-rotational with the front leg spinning; there was limited downward plane from the body and it translated to the pitches missing up and armside through his outing. The outing saw him work through trouble (3BB, 2K, 2H, 3R, 0ER) in the first two innings before succumbing to a couple errors and two hits in the 3rd chasing him after 2.1 innings. FB 89-93 with some ride up in the zone; ball stays hidden well with arm action, but the lack of downward plane allowed hitters to look one zone on the pitch. CHG 82-85 firm with arm side run; used it early and more consistently the 2nd inning leading to some weak contact. CB 75-76 showing 11/5 break with late downer action when at its best; can improve arm speed as he tended to cast his arm on the pitch. CB/CHG weren’t very effective and allowed hitters to make some adjustments and look FB earlier in the counts. Getting his first start, there’s some upside especially when he had better angle and showed the ability to move the fastball.
