2/15/20: At 5-foot-10, 185 pounds, Kerner is an athletic, agile receiver with quick feet and real good hands. He received well and showed average arm strength with a 2.03 POP. Offensively, there’s limited power as Kerner is a contact hitter with good balance, a controlled lower half and marginal bat speed. He got off to a slow start opening weekend going 2-for-11 with three strikeouts at the plate. However, during previous looks he was short to the ball and used all fields...typically a recipe for hitting for a high batting average as his .338 average as a true freshman in 2018 would indicate. Currently, he profiles as a defense-first, big league backup catcher and a solid offensive campaign in 2020 should elevate him into Day Two this June.
8/20/18: Athletic, agile receiver who calls a good game and receives well. Average arm strength. At the plate he’s a contact hitter with occasional doubles power. Short to the ball and long through the hitting zone. Used all fields. As just a to-be sophomore Kerner continues to build his draft resume after a successful summer defensively. Currently, he profiles as a ML backup catcher which should elevate him into the middle rounds of Day Two for the 2020 draft. (Seifert)
