Mayencourt is a solid catcher/middle infielder out of the Whalley Chiefs organization. He has some grit to his playing style and enjoys leaving the field dirty. He showed us some power potential at our Whalley Open ID as one of the only players who left the yard on the day. He has a smooth left-handed swing with a comfortable loft to his pull-side gap. Defensively, behind the plate, he showed some nice receiving tendencies and blocked the ball well. His POP floated between 2.00-2.1 in the showcase and recorded a 77MPH positional velocity from behind the dish. He has good footwork and hands in his groundball work in the infield, with a clean transfer and quick delivery. Mayencourt does a lot of things well, and with some footspeed increases and functional strength gains, he should continue to develop into a dependable utility player. Another solid sleeper from this 2021 class out of BC.
5/28/20
Brayden Mayencourt is a 5-foot-10, 165 pounds middle-infielder and catcher for the Whalley Chiefs whom has projectable tools, both offensively and defensively. Soft hands at SS/2B, shows some arm strength at both positions. Behind the plate, Mayencourt has a quick release when throwing out runners. Mayencourt has made small adjustments to his swing since attending a PBR event last April as Brayden showcases a smooth stroke from the left side with a sound approach, short leg kick and minimal movement in his hands. There is more power potential left untapped while he still hit over .300 last year in JPBL. It will be exciting to see how he handles senior arms. If Mayencourt commits himself to add strength over the next year while continuing to improve his arm velocity and defensive foot speed, he could be a solid add for the right college program in 2021.
