1/27/19 Uncommitted 5’10 athletic frame with plenty of room for strength. Tools are continuing to get better, decreased 60 time to a 6.85 and up to 89 in his exit velo. Champagne plays with energy and quick twitch movements. Uses explosive lower half and leg kick at the plate to get everything out of his 145 pounds. Gets barrel in zone early, allowing for plenty of time in the zone to all fields. Crow hops in the outfield with a very accurate arm, giving the catchers good long hops to handle and still keep the ball through the would be cut. On the mound, Champagne showed a live fastball but struggled to get the ball to his arm side, which will increase action on his 83 MPH fastball. Breaking ball was 68-70 MPH.
10/14/18 - Very lean 5-foot-10, 140-pound frame with strength in forearms. Two-way prospect. Plays with a noticeable energy and is another guy who has clearly worked hard to make a jump. Everything Champagne does is quick twitch and that makes it easy to dream on what he could become despite the slight frame. He ran a solid 6.88 60-yard dash and posted the top outfield velocity at the event of 89 mph. As a hitter contains strong forearms, good bat speed with a balanced approach and rhythm. On the mound he shows excellent arm speed and threw easily the top breaking ball at the event, a 68-70 mph hammer curveball with 11-5 shape and tight rotation that looks like a true out pitch. Shows a balanced approach in the box with intriguing bat speed, but lacking overall physical strength/mass. Development of hit tool will dictate whether Champagne is a pitcher or hitter at the next level.
12/27/17 - Narrow 5-foot-10, 155-pound frame. Two-way prospect showed best on the mound, working 76-77, T78 with good arm speed on his fastball from a high ¾ slot. Hand moves fast enough that we can project a velo increase with continued physical development. Showed advanced feel for two secondary pitches, a 67-69 mph curveball that showed consistent tight rotation and flashed hard downward break, along with a sinking 71-73 mph changeup that was a standout pitch at the event. Offensively hits from a wide, solid base with a compact stride, making plenty of line drive contact. Will drive the ball better and he gets more out of his back side in the swing; 78 mph exit velocity. Moves well in the OF, getting lots out of his lower half and turning in a 78 mph outfield velo. Also posted 7.43 60-yard dash and will be an interesting follow, especially on the mound.
