A simple calculation that divides the athlete’s Exit Velocity Max by the athlete’s 60 Yard Dash time for the given event year. For example, 98 MPH / 7.00s = 14.00.
10/10/18 - Athletic 5-foot-10; 160-pound frame. Shows fast-twitch ability. Posted 6.89 60-yard dash with strong burst and good form throughout. Starts with wider base, taking virtually no stride and loading only his hands straight back. Very little coil/rotation in swing. Made strong line drive contact and showed some feel for the barrel that resulted in 85 mph exit velocity. Perhaps his most impressive tools were on display during his outfield workout. Hobbs repeatedly was in correct position to receive and release the baseball with athletic outfield actions and a clean, quick transfer. He posted the outfield top velocity at the Unsigned Senior Showcase with 90 mph. Would be very interesting pitching prospect if he could take outfield arm action to the mound.
10/10/18 - 5-foot-10, 160-pound frame. Wirey, fast-twitch body with some present strength. Two-way prospect showed a stiffer arm action on the mound, stabbing straight back out of his glove, but has significant arm strength as displayed by his 90 mph OF velo. Hobbs’ fastball sat 83 mph and topped out at 85 from a high ¾ slot. Lower half is athletic and fairly efficient. Secondary offerings are still developing as his 75-76 mph breaking ball tended to back up on him. Also mixed in a 75-78 mph changeup and flashed a couple in the zone with fastball arm speed that show the pitch has a chance with added consistency. More of an athlete that pitches right now, but the ceiling is intriguing on the mound.
