Body: 6-foot-2, 195-pound proportional physical frame.
Hit: (RHH) Starts in a balanced quiet stance with a smooth load, then uses a quick stride. Explosive bat speed. High finish, upward loose swing. Gap to gap approach.
Power: 93 mph exit velocity, average 83.21 mph. 65.95 mph bat speed average. 21.88 mph hand speed average.
Defense: (IF) Next level hands, athletic footwork, quick fluid exchange. Advanced. Fields the ball out front.
Arm: 83 mph infield velocity.
Speed: 7.25 (60-yard).
MIF Todd Clay (2022) has played both defensive positions up the middle this year for Auburn before settling into the role at 2nd base later in the year, but has the profile and size to move to shortstop in the future. Standing 6-2, 195-pounds in the middle of the order, Clay came up big for Auburn in the 2nd with a RBI single to right field in a crucial area game to punch their ticket to the 7A State Playoffs. Starts in a tall, upright position before getting down more into his hips during his load and compliments the swing with a short & simple stroke. Middle of the field approach from the right side. Rangy defender with a solid glove up the middle.
6-foot-2, 190-pound mature frame. At the plate, Clay's 98 mph exit velocity showed his ability to drive the ball with power. Sets up in a balanced stance with a controlled load. Bat speed was quick, had uphill upward swing plane and good extension on his finish. He created loud contact and found multiple barrels. Pull side approach. In the infield, displayed a velocity of 80 mph; fluid exchange. Had consistent accuracy. During the event, recorded a 60 time of 7.3.
