Attacking at 93-96 mph for 2.1 innings, along with a good power slider at 84-86. His control needs to be better — he has seven walks and eight strikeouts in 4.2 innings this year — but Holcombe’s arm talent is undeniable, and his future is very bright.
After ranking as PBR Mississippi's No. 75 prep prospect a year ago, Holcombe, a Mississippi State recruit, will be a name to follow closely during the 2022 season. At 6-foot-7, 240 pounds, Holcombe is a physical presence on the mound who impresses with his athleticism and clean arm action. With a fastball that currently sits at 92-96 mph but can reach 99, Holcombe could very well be popping triple digits during the spring season. The big right-hander's heater comes out of his hand well, and he complements it with a slider that regularly flashes plus when located down in the zone. Holcombe also has a quality changeup at his disposal, giving him the requisite three-pitch mix – on top of the physicality and projection – needed to profile as a starter at the next level.
