A fastball with rise has a high percentage of backspin. When thrown up in the zone, it is more likely to generate a higher fly ball percentage. Rise+ of 100 is MLB average
Curveball
Hammer+
A hammer breaking ball drops vertically with velocity through the zone, or 12-to-6 movement. Hammer+ of 100 is MLB average.
Curveball

6-foot-2, 185-pound. In the box, the right-handed hitter clocked an exit velocity of 90 mph. Begins in a wide stance with a quick controlled load, then uses a leg kick. Had a simple swing plane, and his bat speed was average. Barreled up a few balls throughout his round. Pull side approach. While in the infield, made throws at velocities up to 79 mph; has rhythmic feet, and consistent hands. Had a ¾ slot and consistent accuracy to the bag. During the event, ran the 60-yard dash in 7.3. On the mound, Smith showed a low 3/4 slot and every pitch he throw had nice movement on it as he does a nice job pitching with deception. The curveball (70-71 mph) showed slider action and true late movement. The fastball was consistently 80-83 mph and he topped 84 mph with true 2-seam action on the pitch.

6-foot-2, 182-pound solid frame. In the box, the right-handed hitter recorded an exit velocity of 89 mph. Begins in a crouched stance with a controlled load, then uses a leg kick. Bat speed was some, displayed level swing plane and good extension on his finish. He found multiple barrels through his rounds. Line drive approach. While in the infield, made throws up to 79 mph; shows average feet, a clean exchange, and sure hands. Showed a ¾ slot with consistent accuracy to the base. In the 60-yard dash, he clocked a time of 7.4. On the mound, using a quick arm action he showed good arm speed from a ¾ arm angle. Shows some effort in his delivery. Sat with his fastball at 77-78 mph; showed sinking action and decent command. His 11/5 curveball (65-67) had control around the zone and late action. Had fading action and command low in the zone on his changeup (67-68).

6-foot-2, 175-pound athletic frame. During batting practice, the right-handed hitter showed power in the box with an exit velocity of 90 mph. Setup consists of athletic stance and a compact load. Had quick bat speed and simple swing plane. Found multiple barrels with some loud contact. Line drive approach. Above average while in the infield, made throws at velocities up to 74 mph. Showed consistent accuracy. During the event, recorded a 60 time of 7.49.

The ‘22 grad showed a very deceptive delivery with short action and the FB seemed a bit “sneaky quick” that was up to 77 mph with ASR and sink that should be a ground ball producer for him. The low ¾ slot produced a breaking ball with slider type action that he located well to the glove side at 68-69 mph. Slightly open stance with the feet at the plate and a small leg kick approach. The hands are set fairly high in the stance and the bat path showed slight tilt as he showed a mostly pull side approach with some back spin off the bat. At 3B the glove presentation was solid and he did a nice job of gaining ground toward the 1B to make the throw. Fairly narrow setup with the feet when fielding ground balls.
