2/22/18 - 6’2/200, L/R, Junior. Filling in at shortstop for injured senior Drew LaBounty, Donovan was adequate defensively. His best position on the dirt may be second base where his fringe arm strength would play the best. He does have a quick release, but needs an extra shuffle in his footwork to get maximum velocity on his throws from the six-hole. He showed solid actions and body control. What’s most impressive are Donovan’s abilities in the batter’s box. From a spread stance in the back of the box, he takes a small, soft, controlled stride. He’s ready to hit with balance, good pitch recognition and a bat strength/bat speed combination. Despite going 3-for-14 to start the season, he took quality at-bats throughout the tournament. Overall, Donovan does not have a plus tool, but he profiles as a well-rounded second baseman whose bat could separate him. With another strong season of offensive production, Donovan should be drafted within the top five rounds.
