'24 3B/1B Bailey Thorne (No. 4) may not have had much to show for in terms of statistics, but the current freshman got off some good swings against quality arms all day. Hitting in the 3-hole for a very talented Warrior offense, Horne did more than hold his own offensively. In the later innings against an SEC signee on the mound, the right-handed hitting freshman showed quick hands in one at-bat, turning around a 90 mph fastball over the plate and lined out on a rope to the perfectly-played center fielder. Recorded a single in one at-bat during the day, but also displayed some maturity and selectiveness, walking four times at the plate. Hopped on the mound in the 10th inning of a tied game and pitched a scoreless top half, resulting in a W as the Warriors won it in the bottom half. Up to 81 mph.
1/29/21
5-foot-10, 175 pound frame with tons of strength present. Thorne impressed at the plate during a look at a HS scrimmage prior to the 2021 season. In his 1st at bat of the scrimmage, the right-handed hitter turned around 90 mph off an SEC commit and smoked it to the pull side gap for a triple. Starts in a crouched stance, uses a toe-tap load and has very quick hands for a current freshman. Incorporates the strength in the lower-half well throughout. Moves well around the bases, as he had no trouble making it the 3rd base on the triple. Power seems to be his best tool with definitely more to come in the future. Hopped on the mound and has been into the mid/upper 80's, but was 77-79 mph during this look with a bit of command issues. A lot to like here with the bat and should be a force in the Russell County lineup for years to come.
