Listed at 5-foot-10 and 165 pounds, Backstrom impressed on the mound and at the plate. On the mound Backstrom showcased a smooth, quick arm action. His fastball worked in the upper 70's and will continue to trend upwards. He showed good feel for his off-speed keeping his body speed the same which will give hitters trouble. At the plate he made hard contact throughout his BP round and reached an exit velocity of 78 mph.

12/18/17 - 5-foot-10, 165-pound frame, athletic build, with room to carry more strength and size. High 3/4 arm slot with quick arm and clean action. Fastball has late arm side movement that works in the mid 70's along with a slider with biting action that has out pitch potential. Athletic player, ran a 7.25 sixty this summer and also sees time in the infield. Good instincts on the infield, charges ball well and shows quick glove actions to both sides. Backstrom has a pure swing from the right side, loose and athletic movements, comfortable in the box and shows good balance with a controlled front side through the swing.
