Wisconsin Signing Day: Big East
December 13, 2023
Last month, thousands of high school baseball players across the country signed their National Letters of Intent to lock in their official commitments to their respective schools, with hundreds of these signings hailing from Wisconsin.
Over the next few weeks, we will spend some time highlighting the names from the Badger State that signed their NLI to play baseball at the Division I level. We’ll do so by breaking these names up by conference. Recently, we highlighted prospects that are heading to the Missouri Valley Confernece and the ACC, Big Ten, and Big 12.
Today, we'll be looking at the players from Wisconsin that signed to play at schools in the Big East with videos, scouting reports and more, below.
XAVIER
Coming off of their first Big East tournament championship since 2017, the Musketeers add a pair of former Future Games standouts with RHP Jack DeTienne (Verona Area) and MIF Eddie Peters (La Crosse Aquinas).
Jack DeTienne
From 10/3/23: “"A high-effort delivery with tight arm circle and a deceptive, over-the-top slot that can overwhelm hitters with electric arm speed, albeit lacking some ability to repeat. Fastball has impressive metrics, sitting a high-spin 92-94 with big-time hop that averages 18 inches of induced vertical break (Max 20.7) and will miss a ton of bats. Feel for a 79-81 hammer curveball is present with ability to create depth while holding 11/5 shape. Presently a two-pitch mix with high effort can lead to reliever risk, but the athleticism and projection in the frame can offer a higher ceiling as he develops.”
Eddie Peters
From 11/15/23: "[Peters] has been one of the most consistent performers in front of our staff over the last couple of years. The 2022 PBR Future Games participant swings a quick and loose bat from the right-side that is capable of spraying balls to all parts of the field. Inside of his strong 6-foot-2, 180-pound frame, Peters also holds some big time power potential that he has already shown flashes of. On the infield, he is a smooth moving defender with soft and sure hands that certainly look to stay on the infield for the long-term. Peters’ is a confident, high-ceiling player inside of the state and is certainly a name to mention when talking about the state’s best."
BUTLER
For the third consecutive year, a former member of Team Wisconsin at the Future Games has signed with Butler. Roman Sienza (Mukwonago), one of the top outfielders in the state, will be joining the Bulldogs next fall.
Roman Sienza
From 3/28/23: "[Sienza] continues to show-well as one of the state’s top prospects. Sienza is listed at 6-foot-2, 165 pounds with smooth athleticism. He showed off his athleticism with the second fastest 60 yard dash at the event at 6.72 seconds. The Butler commit then moved onto the hitting portion of the event where he showed off his under control swing with barrel awareness and hit balls with a max exit velo in the 90s. His outfield defense continues to be something that Sieza shines at with the ability to move well in the outfield and cut runners down with his strong throwing arm."
CREIGHTON
The final Badger State native that will be competing in the Big East is Eason Hurd (Ashwaubenon), one of the top-ranked 3B in the state's senior class and another member of the 2022 Wisconsin Future Games team.
Eason Hurd
From 9/23/23: "[Hurd] is another member of Wisconsin’s 2022 Future Games team that has continued to find success. He was an offensive catalyst for the Rays on Sunday, recording multiple hits and driving in multiple runs. Hurd has begun to fill out his strong 5-foot-10, 185-pound frame and swings a strong right-handed bat and has feel for the barrel. He showed well defensively, too, with some quality plays at the hot corner."
