Offering one of the highest ceilings in the state, LHP Brolan Frost (Elkhorn, 2025; Iowa commit) was a major winner across this past year’s summer circuit. The first of a couple standout performances of the summer came at July’s Top Prospect Games. There the long-limbed 6-foot-4, 165-pound southpaw sat in the low-to-mid-80s with his fastball from an easy and simple delivery. He also showed feel to spin in a tight curveball and a fading changeup, too. After cruising through his outing there, Frost earned an invite to the biggest uncommitted event of the year - the 2023 Prep Baseball Future Games. While at LakePoint, Frost pounded the zone with his three-pitch mix while running his fastball up to 85 mph. In his two separate one inning appearances against some of the best uncommitted talent in the country, Frost induced weak contact and finished with two strikeouts while not allowing a hit either. Shortly following his standout performance on the national stage, Frost announced his commitment to Iowa where he will join a number of other Badger State prospects.

Recently we had the opportunity to catch up with Frost to talk about how his recruitment process unfolded and much more.

OUR Q&A

PBR: What were your expectations about the recruiting process? What were you looking for out of a college program to continue your baseball career at?

Frost: My expectation of the recruitment process was probably a little different than others. In the beginning of the summer season I was still smaller than most of my teammates and still had a lot of room to grow. Over the season I saw a lot of improvement, and that’s when the recruiting process started. It all came relatively quick for me due to the late growth, but it was all I had hoped it would be. Overall a great experience. I was looking for a college that would ensure me to become the best pitcher I could become. I was also looking for academic support because I put academics just as high as baseball. Iowa covered these expectations because they ensure academic support, and one of their main goals is a BVY, best version of yourself.

P: Did location or distance from home play a factor in your decision?

F: Location didn’t play that big of a role for me when choosing a college. I wanted a college that would be close to home so my family could attend the games, but if I had to sacrifice distance for a college that would cover all of my expectations, then I was willing to do that. Iowa was perfect for me because they covered my expectations and it’s close enough to home for my family to attend.

P: When did the recruiting process really start to heat up for you? Where did the school you committed to first see you play?

F: The recruiting process really started to ramp up for me right at the end of the summer. I attended the Top Prospect Games and was asked to attend the Prep Baseball Future Games. Before this I hadn’t heard much from colleges. After the Future Games I was excited to begin the process of talking to colleges and recruitment. Iowa may have seen me once or twice over the summer, but their main look at me was down in Georgia for the Future Games. After this we began talking and they got to see me pitch once more during fall ball in Iowa.

P: What do you like most about the program you chose, and what were the key factors in making your decision?

F: I loved that Iowa not only wanted to make me the best baseball player that they could, but they also strive to make me a better person. I think this plays a huge role in team chemistry. When everyone wants to get better, they are also going to push each other to be better in every aspect.

P: What other schools were on your short list before you made your final decision?

F: Xavier, UIC, Creighton, and a few others.

P: Who is the best player you have faced in your state? What about them makes for a tough opponent?

F: OF Garrett Kay (Waterford, 2023; Illinois-Chicago) has been the best hitter I have faced as a pitcher in the high school season. He always draws contact, no matter the pitch you give him he will find a way to put it in play and majority of the time for a base hit.

P: At what point in your career did you realize you were a college-caliber player and became serious about taking your game to the next level?

F: I realized I had what it took to play in college going into my 16u season. Before then I was getting no looks but had always dreamed of playing college baseball. By the end of the season I started to see my potential as a player and started to try to put myself out there more. After the Future Games and talking to all these colleges I knew for sure I had what it took.

P: What advice would you give to young baseball players striving to get where you are?

F: Keep working hard. Kids that are the best at a young age aren’t necessarily going to be the best three years down the road. You never know your potential unless you work hard to be the best baseball player and person you can be.

P: What is the most memorable moment in your baseball career to this point?

F: I can’t pick one moment that I would say is the most memorable because travel baseball has been a part of me since I was 8 years old and along with travel baseball came many memories with my teammates and coaches. Overall travel baseball in general has been a very memorable thing in my life and I would say to younger players to enjoy it because it is some of the most fun you will ever have.

P: Preview your high school team's season for us. How do you feel your team will be?

F: I think Elkhorn has a chance to be a very well rounded team this year in all aspects of baseball. Last year we were a very young team, consisting of majority sophomores and juniors. So I believe this year we will come into the season as a team, and due to the fact we didn’t lose many players, we will work together better.

P: How did the Future Games affect your recruitment process? Did you receive more attention following the event?

F: The Future Games affected my recruitment process a lot. It gave me a lot of looks by colleges that may have not seen me elsewhere. Following the event I received a lot more attention. Many of the colleges reached out on August 1st due to the recruiting rule.

P: Who is the next talented young player to keep an eye on out of your high school or travel program?

F: I believe that LHP Tanner Buhlmann (Arrowhead, 2026) has huge potential in the upcoming years. His work ethic is top notch. He’s always getting in the gym and pushing himself to be better everyday. He has great mechanics and has a lot of room to grow in the upcoming seasons.

P: Did Prep Baseball assist in your recruiting? Whether it be through a showcase, tournament coverage, tweets, etc? If yes, please explain.

F: Prep Baseball played a huge role in my recruiting. With their posts and showcases I was able to receive an invite to Future Games. Overall, I believe that Future Games got me the looks that I needed to play in college.
