By: Wisconsin Staff

On April 2, the Prep Baseball Wisconsin staff traveled to MOSH Training Facility in Franklin, Wis., to host the annual Milwaukee Rising Stars. This event featured prospects from the 2028 and 2029 graduating classes and has consistently provided our staff with the names of players to consider inviting to the PBR Junior Future Games where they’ll represent Team Wisconsin at LakePoint Sports in Emerson, GA., at the end of the summer.

Now, at the event's conclusion, our staff will begin to compile some of our takeaways from this event while also hitting on some of the day's stat leaders. Below you'll find which players popped to our scouts, as well as which prospects headlined our respective statistical categories.

TAKEAWAYS

+ LHP/1B Kaydan Ensign (Burlington, 2028) is built at a mature 6-foot-2, 195 pounds and he put together an intriguing day on both sides of the ball. During his round of BP, Ensign shot line drives from gap-to-gap, maxing out at 87 mph on his hardest hit ball of the day. Defensively, he has a quick exchange on his throws across the infield and was an overall quality defender at first base. His ceiling on the mound is also high, working out of simple and easy delivery, he ran his fastball up to 74.9 mph. His breaking ball played with 2/8 shape and showed the ability to land it in the zone for strikes while also throwing it below for swing-and-miss. A developing changeup rounds out his three-pitch mix that was thrown at arm speed.

+ INF/C Tate Hagen (Arrowhead, 2028) is a lean 5-foot-9, 130 pounds and he put together a quality overall day on Tuesday. With the bat, Hagen took simple and controlled swings to the ball, producing line drives to all parts of the field. Defensively, he is an athletic mover on the infield with sure-handed and clean actions, pairing it with a loose arm that was accurate on his throws to first. He also showed some promise behind the plate where he recorded a pop-time low of 2.22, while showing soft hands.

+ INF/RHP Carter Hoeffler (Muskego, 2028) is a high-waisted athlete that showed well on Tuesday. Offensively, he swung a simple bat from the right side, working with a level path and a middle/pull-side approach. He was also an impressive defender on the infield, working with athleticism to the ball, while featuring confident and soft hands that are well above his years. He then was equally impressive on the mound, where he is an athletic mover downhill with a clean and loose arm that produced fastballs up to 75 mph. He also spun in a couple of breaking balls; the first being a traditional 11/5 curveball with an above-average spin rate for age and late depth. The second was a tight slider in the mid-60s with lateral break that also spun at a quality clip. Rounding out his productive four-pitch mix was a changeup with some fade to the arm side.

+ OF Bryson Hoeffler (Muskego, 2028) took a clean round of BP on Tuesday, utilizing a quick and small leg lift to deliver the barrel with quick hands, showing an all-field approach. Defensively, he is an athletic mover with soft and reliable hands that work through the baseball.

+ RHP/INF Brady Lauer (Germantown, 2028) is a high-upside prospect, with plenty more inside of his lean 5-foot-9, 135-pound frame. He swings a simple bat from the right side, with a loose and easy operation overall that sprayed line drives to all parts of the field. Defensively, he possesses active feet, with soft and confident hands, pairing it with a loose arm that was accurate to the bag. His upside seems to be higher on the mound, where he repeats his simple delivery. As for his repertoire, he ran his fastball up to 77.1 mph, with some intriguing pitch metrics to it. He showed feel for a curveball in the upper-60s, while also fading in a changeup that was also in the upper-60s.

+ INF/RHP Jax Lindauer (Arrowhead, 2028) showed some notable actions to his game during our annual Milwaukee Rising Stars event. Offensively, he took loose but compact swings to the ball which sprayed line drives from gap-to-gap. On the mound, he is a simple and athletic mover, while being able to spin in a productive three-pitch mix.

+ C Connor Meyers (Germantown, 2028) is an intriguing left-handed hitting backstop who had one of the better all-around days. In the box he sets up tall before getting to a strong hitting position. Meyers controlled the barrel throughout his round, hit the ball to all fields and had one of the higher max exit velocities of the day at 81.7 mph. His 2.28 pop time behind the plate was the second best of the event showing impressive skills behind the plate.

+ SS/RHP Tytus Nichter (Westosha Central, 2028) impressed as a two-way talent at the event. With the bat, Nichter showcased a quick swing and registered one of the top max exit velocities of the event at 80.7 mph. In the infield, Nichter displayed soft hands with the best arm at 78 mph across the infield. On the mound, he featured a solid three-pitch mix with a fastball, slider and change up. His 78 mph fastball was an event best and showed touch and feel to drive it through the zone.

+ INF/C Tim O’Grady (Badger, 2028) is an interesting prospect as a middle of the diamond player. Listed at 5-foot-6 125 pounds, his frame is projectable and will add more size and strength as he matures. His swing is short and compact and he consistently made barrel contact to all fields. He has athletic actions in the infield and behind the plate.

+ INF Cole Pettijohn (East Troy Middle, 2028) was one of the big winners of the day. Pettijohn had the loudest round of the event and recorded an event best max exit velocity of 89.2 mph and also registered the best average exit velocity of the day at 82.7 mph. He also hit a ball 325 feet which was 27 feet further than the next closest participant. In the infield, Pettijohn showcased soft hands and threw the ball 75 mph across the infield which was the second best velocity of the day.

+ 1B Anthony Ramirez (Greendale, 2029) showcased an impressive left-handed swing and registered one of the top exit velocities of the event despite being a 2029 grad. Ramirez is a player our staff will keep on their radar going into the spring and summer circuit.

+ OF Brock Stuck (Nicolet, 2029) opened some eyes at the MOSH at the event with the bat. He continually barrelled baseballs up through the middle of the field with a balanced approach. Our staff took notice and was intrigued by the athletic and upside prospect.

+ INF Egann Sundby (Wisconsin Lutheran, 2028) is an intriguing prospect with the bat. The right-handed hitter showcased quick hands and a compact bat path through the baseball and sprayed it to all fields.

+ C Charlie Weist (Union Grove, 2028) impressed with the bat and behind the plate at the MOSH. Weist showcased an athletic and well-sequenced swing, hitting balls to all fields with notable barrel control. Behind the plate, he showcased soft hands and the ability to turn the ball around quickly to second base. Weist will certainly add to his projectable frame and has an intriguing ceiling once he adds strength.
