The second Preseason I.D. of 2020 concluded on Sunday with the West Milwaukee Preseason I.D. Over 70 prospects were in attendance, ranging from 2020 to 2023 graduates (CLICK HERE for the day’s roster). Despite the time of the year, the event’s pitchers looked to be approaching mid-season form, as there were a lot of notable performances from the mound.

On Tuesday, we broke down the highlights coming out of Sunday’s showcase at STiKS Academy in Waukesha, Wis., inside of our Quick Hits post. Today, we’re examining the more statistical side of things from the weekend’s event. Videos from Sunday’s showcase should be posted in the near future and we’ll have position-by-position analysis soon after that. For now, here’s a breakdown of our measured data extracted from the West MKE event.

TOP 60-YARD DASH

Two juniors broke the sub-7.00 threshold in the laser-timed 60-yard dash: OF Anthony Gross (Catholic Memorial) at 6.81 and OF/RHP Jordan McNello (Waukesha South) at 6.86. Muskego junior Peyton Seebacher has a versatile skillset, and is an above-average runner. Sophomore Logan Libby (Waukesha North) tied Seebacher for the third-best time while catcher Charlie Jarvis (Catholic Memorial, 2022) also showcased some advanced footspeed for his age and position.

MAX FASTBALL VELOCITY

The top of this leaderboard is locked in a three-way tie. Three right-handers topped out at 89 mph, though sophomore Ryan Karst (Brookfield East) is a year younger than the two others he’s tied with. Junior Noah France (Union Grove) was the most surprising name to land atop this leaderboard. Watching his smaller frame unleash multiple 89 mph fastballs was a big takeaway. And multi-sport standout Tyler Hug (Waukesha West) put together arguably the day’s most polished bullpen and he capped his work with back-to-back 89s. Muskego junior Alex Hayes sat 84-85 mph, which was notably the top velocity from the left side. Jacob Hartlaub (Martin Luther, 2021) emerged as a potential two-way talent and touched 87 mph, coupled with smooth infield defense and an upside right-handed bat.

TOP EXIT VELOCITY

Arrowhead sophomore Jonathan Showalter stands at 6-foot-3, 238 pounds, and he used it well enough to top the chart below, recording an event-high 98 mph exit velocity from the tee. Two other Arrowhead underclassmen made this list: sophomore Emiliano Ramos (97 mph) and freshman Thomas Curry (92). Grafton junior Colin Indermuehle is a thin 5-foot-11, but he’s still able to create some surprising bat strength, topping 94 mph from the tee.

INFIELD VELOCITY

Ryan Roehl (West Bend West, 2022) was one of the breakout prospects of Sunday’s showcase and he topped this leaderboard with an 84 mph high across the infield. He was also up to 83 mph on the mound. Fellow West Bend West prospect, junior Tyler Young, came in right behind Roehl at 83 mph in the infield, too. Hartlaub’s arm strength allowed him to break through on the mound and it works really well on defense. He’s an athletic, rangy defender and his arm strength should allow him to keep to shortstop. The aforementioned Indermuehle also showed above-average actions on defense with some arm strength.

OUTFIELD VELOCITY

Gross and Seebacher were referenced above for their various tools and they reappear here where they both right at the top of this leaderboard. Sheboygan North junior Ryan Traas ran a 7.15 and was also tied atop this chart with an 86 mph high to home. Oak Creek’s Angel Rades (2021) has above-average actions on defense and from the left-handed batter’s box and he, too, was tied for the high in this category. Rades’ Knights teammate Alex Hale trailed the top three by just a tick.

CATCHER VELOCITY

Jarvis has previously established himself as one of the best 2022 backstops in the state – and is arguably the best defender of the bunch. He topped 78 mph out of the chute, tied with junior Sam Holling (Waukesha West) who has showed advanced defensive actions in his own right. We noted the freshman Curry for his bat strength above, but his throws down to second also feature carry, and he recorded a 77 mph high himself.

TOP POP TIMES

Curry, again, surfaces inside this category and is an all-around advanced defender who also swings a physical right-handed bat. Jarvis and Holling are also right near the top of this group with quick and clean fundamentals on their throws through the infield. Another Arrowhead backstop, Ryan Mikoda (2022), also demonstrated quick and true actions from the crouch.
