As we get closer to Wisconsin’s Unsigned Senior Showcase on October 12, we will continue to preview players that will be in attendance. Today we take a look at No. 47 ranked prospect, middle infielder Kyle Washburn (Indian Trail, 2014).
Washburn is a 5-foot-10, 145-pound middle-infielder who shows advanced defensive actions. He fields instinctively with natural abilities displaying soft hands and fluid footwork with a clean exchange.
Washburn is a 2014 graduate of Indian Trail HS in Kenosha, WI. Indian Trail is a brand new school and Washburn’s 2014 class will be the first graduating class at the school. Also the 2013 season was Indian Trail’s first season with a varsity sports schedule.
Washburn helped lead that Indian Trail team to a 15-13 record as well as upsetting No. 6 Jefferson in the WIAA playoffs. He received All-Conference and All-District Honors as well.
Despite the new program Washburn has been receiving interest from a number of sources he said. Western Michigan, Ohio University, Grand Canyon University, Concordia-Wisconsin and Benedictine have all expressed interest according to Washburn.
“I’m leaning towards attending college somewhere in the Midwest, but remain open-minded on the type of campus and location to attend. I’m currently undecided on a major, but have a strong interest in Sports Management,” said Washburn.
Washburn has many goals for himself and the team. The opportunity to be a leader for a brand new program is an intriguing proposition for him.
“Personally, I plan to continue to be a leader for our school and baseball program, leading by example on the field and doing whatever it takes to be successful and meet our team goals.”
On top of his baseball skills Washburn is an All-Conference basketball player.
Washburn is getting it done in the classroom as well, maintaining a 3.5 cumulative un-weighted GPA while ranking in the top 25% of his class. Washburn said he has also earned academic honors such as, the SEC Academic Conference award and All-District Academic Honors.
