Underclass Trials: Catcher Analysis

The Underclass Trials took place on June 21st at the Rock Sports Complex in Franklin, WI. Each day this week we will roll out player scouting reports by position. On Friday we will post the top overall position players and pitchers from the event. Today we begin with the catcher reports.
Jake Criter, C, Chilton, 2019
6-foot-1, 211-pound right-handed hitting catcher with a strong frame. At the plate hits from an open setup with a leg kick stride and fair balance. Long, uphill swing path. Showed strength thru contact with 88 mph exit velocity from a tee. Ran the 60 at 7.92. Defensively has a long arm action from a high ¾ slot. Long exchange with raw arm strength. Popped 2.34-2.42 and threw 76 mph from the crouch.
Thomas Otto, C, Appleton North, 2020
6-foot, 180-pound right-handed hitting catcher with a strong frame. At the plate hits from an open setup with a leg kick stride and good balance. Gap to gap power hitter with a long, uphill swing path. Showed strength thru contact with 85 mph exit velocity from a tee. Ran the 60 at 8.09. Defensively has a short arm action from an over the top slot. Athletic defender and active blocker behind the plate. Fluid footwork with a clean exchange. Popped 2.12-2.22 and threw 74 mph from the crouch. Showed flexibility in the lower half receiving.
