Top Prospect Showcase: Preview and Check-In Times

The Illinois/Wisconsin Top Prospect Showcase coming Thursday, June 16th at Silver Cross Field in Joliet, IL is one of the summer’s most heavily attended events in Illinois. Since 2007, this event has drawn between 70-100 colleges from across the country. This event is so heavily attended for one reason: the players. Year in and year out, the best talent in Illinois and Wisconsin is represented at this event.

This is an invite only event and is exclusive to the top 2017 uncommitted prospects in the state. The showcase will be featured on the Prep Baseball Report website, which is subscribed to by more than 450 colleges. Top players will be identified and ranked. Players’ edited videos will also be hosted in the players’ profile along with scouting reports and statistics.

Last year, four pitchers touched 90 mph, five catchers flashed sub 2.00 pop times and four position players ran under a 6.8 laser-timed 60. Each year we strive to improve the event, and this year should be no different with the type of talent our scouting staff has assembled.

Jack Suwinski an outfielder from Taft HS was the Top Overall Prospect from last year’s event. Suwinski, who committed to Indiana, flashed easy power and bat speed from the left-side. With his performance from the event he earned an invitation to the PBR ProCase and the Super 60. Suwinski was the first Illinois high school player off the board in last week’s draft, selected in the 15th round by the San Diego Padres.

RHP Kevin Malisheski from Wauconda was one of the top arms at the event and committed to Illinois State shortly after the event. The 6-foot-3, 190-pound right-hander sat 87-88 mph, touching 89. Malisheski was drafted this past weekend by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 38th round.

Brother Rice’s Andrew Dyke, an athletic outfielder, flashed bat speed, ran a 6.95 60, registered a 91 mph exit velocity, eventually making a commitment to the University of Illinois. Port Washington (WI) catcher, Jack Kinzer, showed well defensively with a highly accurate arm with carry and pop times ranging between 2.00-2.11. Kinzer committed to Iowa shortly following the event.

Check-in at 8:30 – 8:50 am for Position Players

Check-in at 1:20 – 1:40 pm for Pitchers
* Catchers will stay for both sessions as they will also be evaluated while catching bullpens.

The event should end around 2:00 PM for position players. The last pitcher should conclude around 5:00 PM.
