Top Prospect Chicago: Preview
June 9, 2018
On Tuesday, June 12, PBR will be returning to Joliet’s Route 66 Stadium for its invite-only Top Prospect Chicago showcase. The event is one of the state’s most heavily attended, by collegiate and professional scouts alike. Since 2007, this single event has drawn the attention of over 70 colleges from across the country. This exclusive showcase is limited to prospects from Illinois and Wisconsin, and you can take a look at the most up-to-date edition of the day’s roster by clicking HERE.
Last year’s showcase featured nearly 60 prospects and over 50 of them have commitments to play at the next level, to date. You can view the 2017 Top Prospect Chicago roster by clicking HERE.
The 2017 event featured some high-profile arms, one of whom was just selected early on Day Three of the MLB Draft, LHP Antoine Kelly (Maine East; Central Arizona JC commit; 13th round, Padres). And this year’s event isn’t short on talent, either; with a couple of unsigned sophomore prospects in attendance as well, there will be plenty to take in for the scouting community, too.
St. Francis 3B Nick Kosmetatos should be one of the day’s brightest spots. Kosmetatos is currently ranked within the top 30 of his state’s class and is the top-ranked third baseman. Kosmetatos is a physical right-handed hitter that is highly-advanced at the hot corner.

Behind the plate, Kenwood C Brandon Green will be one to keep an eye on. Green has advanced catch and throw skills and controls the barrel at the plate.
Outfielders Kyle Hetherington (Crystal Lake South) and Pierce Jones (Marian Catholic) are two other ranked position player prospects who are set to show well.
On the Wisconsin side, SS Andrew Sweetalla (Appleton East) will be in attendance, one of his state’s top two-way prospects. Smooth in the infield equipped with a big arm that plays on the mound, the Appleton product comes with a projectable frame and has demonstrated some real tools all over the diamond.
