Top-10 Profiles of 2019: No. 8 George Klassen
December 18, 2019
We'll be spending the rest of the month detailing the players who earned the most clicks to their profiles throughout 2019 ending with the state's most-viewed profile of the year, set to be released on Dec. 31. We started the countdown on Monday with our No. 10 most-viewed profile of the year, and we’re onto the No. 8 today, RHP George Klassen (Port Washington, 2020; Minnesota commit).
Klassen had a pretty wild 2019, one in which he competed in the national spotlight and his recruitment opened back up when he was gaining the most momentum he had in his prep career. He had verbally committed to Purdue in August of 2018, soon after his participation in the 2018 PBR Future Games, but when former Boilermakers head coach took over at the helm of Oregon’s program in June, Klassen re-opened his recruitment.
Flashback to March, Klassen was as effective and in control of his exceptionally live arm as we had seen him at our preseason Madison event. There, he sat 90-92 mph with a sharp, aggressive breaking ball and and firm straight change. He’d long struggled to harness his loose and electric arm speed, but his ‘pen in March showed great progress. He continued finding consistent feel through the spring and summer and ultimately landed on a commitment to Minnesota in late July.
He’ll take the mound again in the winter and spring with some draft potential if he can answer some questions regarding his control, otherwise he’ll take his talents to the Twin Cities where he might be able to contribute to the program quickly.

8/7/18 - Verbally committed to Purdue.
6.19.18 - Uncommitted. Klassen stands 6-foot-1, 150-pounds with a developing frame and a very long wingspan. The right-handed pitcher was up to 90 mph before settling in at 86-88 for much of his outing. Stepping across his body to deliver the firm fastballs, Klassen has quick arm that delivers out of high ¾ window, and when everything synced up, he was very good. At times, he struggled with the ability to repeat his slot, especially out of the stretch. However, when he got rolling, everything worked well. The separator for Klassen will be his tight breaking ball. While the fastball command was sporadic, he seemed to have more confidence in the the 11/5, multi-tier curveball that he threw firmly at 75-77, and was a swing and miss offering multiple times. It is very intriguing to imagine the possibilities of what Klassen may blossom into as he matures and gains comfort with the movement patterns of his long limbs.
