The 2018 Senior Games took place Tuesday, August 8th at Triton JC in River Grove, IL. Over 100 uncommitted prospects from the class of 2018 participated in a pro-style workout and simulated games in front of the PBR Scouting Staff.

Today, we continue the analysis of the event with a look at the pitchers from the day.

Top Pitching Prospects

1. Nick Shelton, RHP, Sandburg, 2018
6-foot-4, 185-pound lanky right-handed pitcher with a projectable frame. One of the biggest revelations from the event, impressing with his frame and fastball that topped out at 89 mph. Works from a high ¾ arm angle with a long arm action. Tall and fall delivery with easy effort. Arches back at balance point, smooth rhythm. Fastball has cutting action at 85-88 topping out at 89 mph. Curveball has 11-5 shape with depth at 71-72 mph. Splitter worked 74-76 mph.

2. Brendan Barrette, RHP, Oak Park-River Forest, 2018
6-foot-5, 205-pound right-handed pitcher with a strong frame. On the mound works from a high ¾ arm angle with a long, quick arm action. Tall and fall delivery with a square landing and some rhythm. Fastball sat 84-85 mph working arm side. Slider has 10-4 shape with sharp-breaking action and tight rotation at 71-74 mph. Changeup sat 72 mph.

3. Anthony Scanlon, RHP, Mount Carmel, 2018
6-foot, 160-pound right-handed pitcher. Works from a ¾ arm angle with a long, loose arm action. Tall and fall slow paced delivery, changes timing and tempo. Works in line with home plate, square landing. Fastball has running action at 83-85 mph. Slider has 10-4 shape with depth at 68-70 mph. Changeup has running action at 68-70 mph.

4. Scott Bonebrake, RHP, Libertyville, 2018
6-foot-3, 205-pound right-handed pitcher with a solid frame. On the mound works from a high ¾ arm angle with a short, quick arm action. Tall and fall delivery with some effort. Upright landing working in line with home plate. Fastball has cutting action at 83-85 mph. Curveball has 11-5 shape with sharp breaking action at 71-72 mph.

5. Ryan Palmblad, LHP, Brother Rice, 2018
6-foot-3, 181-pound left-handed pitcher with a lanky frame. Works from a high ¾ arm angle with a loose arm action. Tall and fall delivery with easy effort. Square landing with smooth rhythm and good balance. Repeats well. Fastball has running action at 78-80 mph. Slider has cut action at 74 mph. Changeup worked 71 mph.

6. Gage Olszak, RHP/1B, St. Laurence, 2018
6-foot-3, 200-pound right-handed hitting RHP/1B. On the mound works from a ¾ arm angle with a short arm action. Tall and fall delivery, working in line with home plate. Fastball has running action at 80-82 topping out at 83 mph. Slider works between 11-5 and 10-4 shape at 70-72 mph. Changeup has running action at 73-74 mph. At the plate hits from a slightly open, spread out base. Short stride with average balance. Pull hitter with an uphill swing path. Showed strength thru contact with 90 mph exit velocity from a tee. Ran the 60 at 7.97. Defensively has a loose arm action from a high ¾ slot. Threw 78 mph across the infield.

7. Nick Huisman, RHP, Timothy Christian, 2018
6-foot-6, 230-pound right-handed pitcher. On the mound works from a high ¾ arm angle with a long arm action. Tall and fall delivery working in line with home plate. Fastball worked 81-83 mph. Curveball has 11-5 shape at 67-70 mph. Showed feel for changeup at 74-77 mph, maintaining arm speed.

8. Trey Korbel, RHP, Lincoln-Way Central, 2018
6-foot-1, 187-pound right-handed pitcher. Works from a high ¾ arm angle with a short, quick arm action. Drop and drive delivery with a long stride. Closed landing, cross fire action. Slide step delivery from the stretch. Fastball sat 82-84 mph. Curveball has 11-5 shape with gradual action at 64-65 mph. Changeup sat 72-73 mph.

9. Seth Masters, LHP/1B, Sanburg, 2018
6-foot-2, 165-pound left-handed hitting LHP/1B. On the mound works from a high ¾ arm angle with a loose arm action. Tall and fall delivery with regular effort. Square landing with some rhythm. Fastball has running action at 80-81 topping out at 82 mph. Curveball has 1-7 shape at 66-68 mph. Changeup sat 74-75 mph. At the plate hits from a tall, open setup with a short stride and collapse on the backside. Pull hitter with a long swing path. 85 mph exit velocity from a tee. Ran the 60 at 7.46. Defensively has a short arm action from a high ¾ arm angle. Clean exchange with good footwork around the bag. Threw 78 mph across the infield.

10. Simon Herold, LHP, Minooka, 2018
6-foot-1, 185-pound left-handed pitcher with a solid frame. On the mound works from a high ¾ arm angle wit a long arm action. Tall and fall delivery with regular effort. Square landing working in line with home plate and good balance throughout. Fastball sat 81-82 topping out at 83 mph. Curveball has 1-7 shape at 70-72 mph. Changeup sat 73-74 mph. Will continue to improve with more command.

6-foot-2, 172-pound right-handed hitting 2B/RHP with a lanky frame. Offensively hits from a tall, open setup with a leg kick stride. Long, uphill swing path. 86 mph exit velocity from a tee. Ran the 60 at 7.47. Defensively has a loose arm action from a low ¾ slot. Clean exchange with soft hands. Good body control on the run thru. Threw 71 mph across the infield. On the mound works from a high ¾ arm angle with a short arm action. Tall and fall delivery with a square landing working in line with home plate. Fastball has running action at 74-76 topping out at 77 mph. Slider has 11-5 shape at 66-68 mph. Changeup sat 66-67 mph.

Jake Berger, RHP, Lockport, 2018
6-foot-3, 190-pound right-handed pitcher with a solid frame. Works from a high ¾ arm angle with a long arm action. Tall and fall delivery with a short leg lift, works in line with home plate. Fastball has slight running action working downhill at 80-82 topping out at 84 mph. Fastball induces a lot of ground ball contact. Curveball has 11-5 shape at 67-70 mph. Changeup sat 70-71 mph.

Michael Botthof, 3B/RHP, St. Rita, 2018
6-foot-2, 210-pound right-handed hitting 3B/RHP. Offensively, wide base with a short toe tap stride. Pull hitter, lets the ball travel. 76 mph exit velocity from a tee. Ran the 60 at 8.20. Defensively has a short arm action from an over the top slot. Threw 79 mph across the infield. On the mound works from a high ¾ arm angle with a short arm action. Tall and fall delivery with a short leg lift, works in line with home plate. Fastball has running action at 76-79 topping out at 80 mph. Curveball has 11-5 to 10-4 shape, will get on the side of it, worked 68-72 mph. Changeup sat 70-71 mph.

Cameron Conway, RHP, Joliet West, 2018
6-foot-3, 155-pound lanky right-handed pitcher. Works from a ¾ arm angle with a long arm action. Tall and fall delivery with easy effort. Fastball has running action at 77-79 mph. Curveball has 11-5 shape with gradual action at 64-65 mph. Changeup sat 67-69 mph.

Robert Deischer, RHP, Cary Grove, 2018
6-foot-2, 170-pound right-handed pitcher. Works from a high ¾ arm angle with a short arm action. Drop and drive delivery, slide step from the stretch. Fastball sat 79-81 topping out at 83 mph. Curveball has 10-4 shape at 63-67 mph. Maintained arm speed on changeup at 71-73 mph.

Nathan Deloian, LHP, Lincoln-Way West, 2018
6-foot, 155-pound left-handed pitcher. Works from a high ¾ arm angle with a long arm action. Tall and fall delivery with some rhythm. Works in line with home plate, good balance throughout. Fastball sat 76-77 mph. Curveball has 1-7 shape at 60-61 mph. Changeup sat 70-71 mph. Slider is best offspeed offering with 2-8 shape at 66-68 mph. Struck out two in his inning of work.

Joe Gabel, LHP, Maine South, 2018
6-foot-2, 170-pound left-handed pitcher. Works from a high ¾ arm angle with a loose arm action. Tall and fall delivery with easy effort. Smooth rhythm, works across body. Fastball has running action at 80-82 mph. Curveball has 1-7 shape at 71-72 mph. Struck out one in one inning of work.

Keegan Garcelon, RHP, Huntley, 2018
6-foot-5, 190-pound right-handed pitcher. On the mound works from an over the top arm angle with a long, loose arm action. Drop and drive delivery with easy effort. Smooth rhythm with a square landing. Fastball showed slight running action at 79-81 topping out at 82 mph. Curveball has 12-6 shape at 66-68 mph. Changeup has fading action at 75-76 mph. Struck out two in his inning of work.

Garrett Gillund, RHP, McHenry, 2018
6-foot-1, 185-pound right-handed pitcher. On the mound works from a high ¾ arm angle with a short arm circle on the backside. Tall and fall delivery with a closed landing. Crossfire action. Fastball has running action at 76-78 mph. Curveball has 11-5 shape at 66-69 mph. Changeup worked 70-71 mph.

Matthew Grubb, RHP, Lakes, 2018
5-foot-10, 180-pound right-handed pitcher. On the mound works from an over the top arm angle with a short quick arm action. Tall and fall uptempo delivery with a square landing. Fastball was straight at 79-81 topping out at 82 mph. Slider sat 72-74 mph. Changeup worked 71-72 mph. Induced ground ball contact in game.

Chase Hacker, 1B/LHP, Normal West, 2018
6-foot, 165-pound right-handed hitting 1B/LHP. At the plate hits from a balanced setup with a short stride. Pull hitter with a long swing path. 80 mph exit velocity from a tee. Ran the 60 at 7.51. Defensively has along arm action from a high ¾ slot. Threw 72 mph across the infield. On the mound works from a high ¾ arm angle with a short arm action. Tall and fall delivery with a short stride and upright finish. Fastball has cutting action at 75-78 topping out at 79 mph. Slider has 2-8 shape at 71-73 mph. Changeup sat 63-65 mph.

Matthew Hulsey, 1B/RHP, Homeschool, 2018
6-foot-1, 189-pound right-handed hitting 1B/RHP. Offensively hits from a tall setup with a short stride. Pull hitter with a long swing path. 73 mph exit velocity from a tee. Ran the 60 at 8.32. Defensively took drills at first base, threw 63 mph across the infield. On the mound works from a ¾ arm angle. Works exclusively out of the stretch. Drop and drive delivery working in line with home plate. Fastball sat 57-59 topping out at 60 mph. Slider sat 51-52 mph. Changeup sat 54 mph.

Brandon Kaihara, RHP/3B, Niles West, 2018
5-foot-11, 170-pound right-handed hitting RHP/3B. On the mound works from a high ¾ arm angle with a short arm action. Drop and drive delivery, falls towards first on release. Fastball has slight running action at 72-75 mph. Curveball sat 57-60 mph. Changeup worked 64-67 mph. At the plate hits from a balanced setup with a short stride and average balance. Pull hitter with an uphill swing path. 81 mph exit velocity from a tee. Ran the 60 at 7.96. Defensively has a long arm action from a high ¾ slot. Threw 75 mph across the infield.

Andy Kornacki, RHP, Sussex Hamilton, 2018
6-foot-1, 185-pound right-handed pitcher. Works from a high ¾ arm angle with a short arm action. Tall and fall delivery with a closed landing. Fastball has slight cutting action at 76-77 mph. Curveball worked 58-61 mph. Changeup sat 62-63 mph.

Alex Marquardt, RHP, Monticello, 2018
6-foot-1, 165-pound right-handed pitcher. Works from an over the top arm angle with a short arm action. Tall and fall delivery with a short stride and easy effort. Closed landing working slightly across body. Fastball has downhill tilt working down in the zone at 78-80 topping out at 81 mph. Curveball has 12-6 shape with depth at 69-72 mph. Slider has 10-4 shape with sharp, short breaking action at 72 mph.

Joshua Martinez, RHP, Evergreen Park, 2018
6-foot, 151-pound right-handed pitcher. On the mound works from a high ¾ arm angle with a short arm action. Drop and drive delivery with a high leg kick and back turn at balance point. Works in line with home plate. Fastball sat 74-76 mph. Curveball had gradual action at 58-61 mph. Changeup sat 56-57 mph.

Ryan Morrison, RHP, Glenbrook South, 2018
6-foot-4, 180-pound right-handed pitcher. Works from a ¾ arm angle with a short arm action. Tall and fall delivery working in line with home plate. Falls towards first base after release.Fastball worked 78-80 mph. Curveball has 12-6 shape at 64-66 mph. Changeup showed running action at 68-70 mph.

J.T. Oie, C/RHP, St. Charles North, 2018
5-foot-11, 175-pound two-way player. On the mound arm played over the top with a short arm action. Ability to pound the zone with regular effort. Delivery works on line, lands closed. Fastball is mostly straight, 78-79 mph. Curveball rolls, short breaking action with above average feel, 69-71 mph, 11/5 shape. Flashed changeup at 73 mph. Offensively, balanced setup, loads into backside, short stride, bat stays level through the zone and average balance through contact; 74 mph exit velocity from a tee. Defensively from behind the plate, flexible, clean transfer, short arm action from an over-the-top slot. Throws clocked at 73 mph. Pop times ranged between 2.25-2.35. 8.04 runner in the 60.

Charlie Pakenas, RHP, York, 2018
6-foot-1, 170-pound right-handed pitcher. Works from a high ¾ arm angle with a short arm action. Works exclusively out of the stretch. Short leg lift and stride. Works in line with home plate. Fastball has running action at 79-82 mph, consistently works arm side. Slider has 10-4 shape with short breaking action at 66-69 mph. Changeup sat 73 mph.

Andrew Pounder, RHP, Homewood-Flossmoor, 2018
5-foot-10, 170-pound right-handed pitcher. On the mound works from a high ¾ arm angle with a short arm action. Tall and fall delivery working in line with home plate. Fastball has sinking action at 77-79 mph. Curveball has 11-5 shape at 67-69 mph. Changeup sat 69-71 mph.

Kyle Rosenfeld, LHP, Homeschool, 2018
6-foot-4, 185-pound left-handed pitcher. Works from a ¾ arm angle with a short, loose arm action. Works exclusively out of the stretch. Tall and fall delivery working in line with home plate. Fastball has running action at 79-83 mph. Slider has 2-8 shape with sharp breaking action at 66-68 mph. Changeup sat 69-70 mph.

Alex Runge, RHP, Joliet Catholic, 2018
5-foot-10, 170-pound right-handed pitcher. Works form a high ¾ arm angle with a short arm action. Drop and drive delivery with a high front side and uphill shoulders throughout. Closed landing. Fastball sat 72-74 topping out at 75 mph. Curveball has 11-5 shape with short breaking action at 65-68 mph. Changeup has fading action at 67-69 mph.

Justin Schoefernacker, RHP, Schaumburg, 2018
6-foot-4, 180-pound lanky, right-handed pitcher. On the mound works from an over the top arm angle with a long arm action. Tall and fall delivery working in line with home plate. Fastball sat 76-77 mph. Curveball has 12-6 shape with loose rotation at 68-69 mph. Changeup has fading action at 69-70 mph.

Mason Smith, OF/RHP, Woodlawn, 2018
5-foot-11, 150-pound, lean, two-way prospect. Offensively, left-handed hitter, balanced setup, high back elbow and short stride. Short bat path, hands work on top of the baseball, pull approach. 72 mph exit velocity from a tee. Defensively, steady hands, flashed quick footwork and fast transfer. Short arm action from a high ¾ slot, topped at 78 mph from the outfield. On the mound, right-handed pitcher, works from the stretch only. Slide-step with runners on base, short arm action, high ¾ slot. Fastball, sinking action, 74-78 mph. Slider 10/4 shape, 65-68 mph. Changeup, 66-68 mph.  

Andrew Streit, RHP, Eureka, 2018
6-foot, 165-pound right-handed pitcher. Works from a ¾ arm angle with a long, loose arm action. Tall and fall delivery with easy effort. Square landing with an upright finish. Fastball sat 77-80 topping out at 81 mph. Slows arm on curveball that has 10-4 shape at 60-65 mph. Projects well.

Riley Tannhauser, LHP, Crystal Lake South, 2018
5-foot-11, 145-pound left-handed pitcher. Works form a high ¾ arm angle with a long draw out of the glove. Tall and fall slow paced delivery working in line with home plate. Fastball shows both sinking and cutting action at 70-72 mph. Throws both a curveball and a slider, pitches blend with same 1-7 shape. Curveball sat 60-62 mph.

Evan Waddell, RHP/1B, Belvidere North, 2018
6-foot-5, 210-pound right-handed hitting RHP.1B with a strong frame. On the mound works from an over the top arm angle with a long, quick arm action. Tall and fall delivery with some effort. Works in line with home plate, square landing. Fastball was straight at 82-85 topping out at 86 mph for strikes. Curveball has 12-6 shape with gradual action at 67-69 mph. Slider has 11-5 shape at 70-72 mph. Struck out two in his inning of work. At the plate hits from a balanced setup with a short stride and average balance. Pull hitter with an uphill swing path. 89 mph exit velocity from a tee. Ran the 60 at 7.78. Took drills at first base, threw 83 mph across the infield.

Bryce Wheeler, LHP, DeKalb, 2018
6-foot-1, 155-pound left-handed pitcher. On the mound works from a ¾ arm angle with a long arm action. Tall and fall delivery with regular effort. Opens up early on the front side. Fastball has running action at 77-79 mph. Slider has 2-8 shape at 65-67 mph. Changeup sat 71 mph.

Tyler Yang, RHP, Bartlett, 2018
5-foot-10, 155-pound right-handed pitcher. Works from a high ¾ arm angle with a short, loose arm action. Tall and fall delivery with an open landing and regular effort. Fastball sat 76-78 mph. Curveball has 11-5 shape at 68-70 mph. Changeup sat 73 mph.
