Team Preview: Kenosha Bradford opens season in Florida

Top ranked Kenosha Bradford HS (No. 1 ranked team by Wisconsin Baseball Coaches Association) will be kicking off their season today in the warm sunny skies of Kissimmee, FL at the Disney ESPN Sports Complex. The Red Devils will play four games in two days as they will take on various high school teams from across the country.

Today (April 3) Coach LaBuda and his squad will take on Passaic Valley HS (NJ) and St. Francis De Sales (OH). On April 4th the Red Devils will battle Eastern HS (NJ) and Willoughby South HS (OH).

As the Red Devils begin their state championship run we will take a look at some of the top returners and newcomers that will play a big role in getting Kenosha Bradford to Fox Cities Stadium in June.

It’s hard to replace a 3rd round draft pick (Nathan Mikolas) on any roster, but that’s what the Red Devils will have to do to win their fourth straight Southeastern Conference title. This year the key to the Red Devils success will come on the right arms of their top two returning pitchers from last season.

Kevin Tibor (2013), a Wisconsin Milwaukee recruit, will be returning to the mound as the Red Devils top pitcher bringing a 9-1 record with a 1.70 ERA back to the hill in 2013.Tibor is a returning 1st team All-Conference selection as well as 3rd team All-State.

Senior Colton Lee (2013) will be tag teaming mound duties with Tibor as Lee is coming off of a 7-0 season posting a 1.77 ERA. Lee is still an unsigned senior, and will be looking to put together a repeat performance of 2012 which earned him 1st team All-Conference. The 6-foot-2, 220-pound right hander has an upper 80’s fastball with potential for more on the mound.

Offensively the Red Devils also have one of their top hitters returning. He will not be able to replace the presence of Nathan Mikolas but Tony DeBartolo is bringing a .404 average back to the lineup. Last season DeBartolo was also a 1st team All-Conference selection and 3rd team All-State selection. In 2013 he will be asked to lead a Red Devil lineup that is returning six .300 hitters from last season; seniors Colton Lee (.319), Tony DeBartolo (.404), Jake Costabile (.316), Kevin Tibor (.316) and Anthony Elsen (.350) as well as junior Ty Jandrowski (.304).

Bradford should see help from a few newcomers this year as well. Vincent Hubli (2015) is a sophomore third baseman that shows a big bat. Hubli has recorded exit velocities of 90 mph from the tee showing hard contact and excellent bat speed. He has all the tools to make an impact at the plate for the Red Devils, we’ll see how he adjusts to varsity pitching this year. Hubli is ranked No. 20 in the Class of 2015.

Kyle Schulz (2015) is an athletic outfielder who shows advanced foot speed (6.91-60) and an above average arm for his age (83 mph). Schulz athleticism in the outfield has the chance to be a lockdown defender in centerfield for the Red Devils. The left handed throwing Schulz also tops out with a 77 mph fastball on the mound and could see inning there as well. Schulz is ranked No. 24 in the Class of 2015.
