Player Spotlight: 2016 OF Connor Kimple
November 17, 2014
By Steve Nielsen
Scouting Supervisor – Wisconsin/Illinois
The 2016 rankings were recently updated in Wisconsin and one of the biggest risers in the class was Connor Kimple. Kimple is a physical outfielder from Marquette University HS who looked impressive this summer with his advanced physical nature and strong bat.
Kimple was highly touted when we first saw him back in July of 2013 as an invite to the Top Prospect Games at Illinois-Chicago and was initially ranked at No. 18 in the state. The following off-season Kimple did not have his best showing at the Milwaukee Preseason I.D. and prior to seeing him again this summer was ranked in the low 50’s.
This time around he has jumped his way back up the rankings more than 30 spots to No. 16. Kimple is looking very physical and scouts are taking notice. At 6-foot-2, 205-pounds Kimple is projecting himself as a middle of the lineup type hitter at a corner outfield spot and has now topped his previous high ranking of No. 18 from more than a year ago.
In the box Kimple has an opposite field approach and lets the ball travel deep making consistent hard opposite field contact. As Kimple starts to learn to pull the ball on a more consistent basis his power numbers could jump through the roof.
Keep an eye on the physical outfielder as he will be a strong follow this year.
