PBR at The Rock 13U & 14U: Day 2 Quick Hits
May 31, 2020
Our coverage of Wisconsin’s return to baseball continues today after a full day scouting the PBR at The Rock 13/14U Championships. In case you missed our Quick Hits highlights after Day 1, click the previous hyperlink. These posts are comprised of the top performances coming out of Saturday’s action.
+ Arguably the top pitching performance from the weekend thus far came from ESP Black’s Simon Skroch (Yorkville, 2024). Skroch threw a complete game no-hitter, striking out 11 in the process. He sat an easy 77-80 mph, touching 81 mph multiple times and holding velocity throughout his outing. Skroch paired his swing-and-miss fastball with a hammer 12/6 breaking ball that he primarily used to put hitters away, too. He’s becoming a high follow in Illinois’ 2024 class.

+ In the early morning game over at Milkmen Field, RHP Drew Braam (Oak Creek, 2024) turned in a strong performance for the Milwaukee Hitmen. He sat an easy 74-76 mph on his heater and flipped in some impressive high-spin breaking balls, too. Braam went three innings, striking out four and allowing no earned runs.
+ C Kyle Hartmann (Sycamore, 2024) athletic build, had an overall strong performance as he impressed behind and at the plate for ESP Black 14U. He threw out two runners in the same inning with a strong arm and quick feet, popped a 2.44 in between innings. He received the ball well and controlled the flow of the game being vocal. In a low crouch stance, Hartmann launched a ball to the left field fence for a 2B.
+ CF Cade Palkowski (Oak Creek; 2024) has had quite the impressive tournament thus far for Hitters 2024. After pitching well against GRB Rays Green Friday night, Palkowski balled out at the plate on Saturday, going 4-for-5 with two hard-hit doubles. He consistently finds the barrel and uses his compact strength to drive the baseball. Palkowski’s performance this weekend has put him on the watchlist for Wisconsin’s 2024 class.
+ SS/RHP Brock Lulewicz (Muskego, 2024) took the ball for Hitters 2024 against Fastball Elite. Although his start was brief, Lulewicz looked every bit the part of a prospect on the mound – after already establishing himself as a follow shortstop so far this weekend. He sat an easy 76-78 mph, touching 79 mph, with jump out his hand. Lulewicz pitched 2.1 innings and struck out seven batters. He has a big, athletic build and ranges exceptionally well for his size on defense, equipped with advanced arm strength.

+ Fastball Elite won both of their games on Saturday largely in part to the offensive production of Jameson Martin (St. Laurence, 2024) and Parker Violett (Kaneland, 2024). Martin went 3-for-3 at the dish, crushing two doubles into both gaps and finding the barrel on all three of his hits. Violett looks like a middle-of-the-order bat, already demonstrating some raw power capabilities, hammering a middle-in fastball to the left field wall for a triple and making loud contact the opposite way to drive in two runs later in the ballgame.

+ GRB Rays Green 14U squad has some premium follow talent that have landed themselves on the Class of 2024 watchlist: RHP/3B Eason Hurd (Ashwaubenon), SS Noah Wech (Manitowoc Lincoln), and 1B Tevyn Montgomery (Bay Port) among them. Hurd made our Quick Hits post yesterday after a highly effective outing on the mound, sitting in the mid- to upper-70s for his start while mixing in an excellent breaking ball with feel and tight spin. Saturday, we saw Hurd take professional at-bats. He has an innate feel for the strike zone and patiently picks out his pitch to hit. He mashed an 0-2 breaking ball down the left field line in his first at-bat and really earned a walk in his next at-bat.
Wech plays a really smooth shortstop and glides in a rhythm to the baseball; he fielded a groundball up the middle with advanced actions for his age, fluidly funneling it up through his body on the move while throwing a strike to first. He tallied a couple hits, too, including a deep double to left-center.
Get to know this shortstop from Manitowoc Lincoln: Noah Wech (2024). He's a smooth defender with a sound, loose bat that connected for a loud double here.#PBRatTheRock pic.twitter.com/ilEdMHjLv4

And Montgomery is an intimidating at-bat. He’s a physical right-handed hitter who swings a fast bat that creates some thump. There’s some swing-and-miss there right now, but the kind of contact he creates off the barrel is premium, and he moves well for his size/frame. Montgomery was also up to 77 mph on the mound later in the day.
+ Chicago Elite 14U exploded offensively in their second game of the day against Slammers Coyote for a 15-0 win. Four players recorded a pair of hits each: Chris Montell, Cole Crafton (Lincoln-Way West, 2024), Conner Durkin (Lincoln-Way East, 2024), and Zach Ford (Providence Catholic, 2024). Crafton tallied a double and a triple in the ballgame and Durkin doubled twice to motor the offense.
+ At the 13U level, Hitters Navy had a big day on Saturday, earning wins over Top Tier Americans GRB Rays Green.. In the first game, Hitters put up 12 runs on 10 hits; Braylen White, Abe Herchenbach, and Ethan Bauerschmidt each had two hits. Bauerschmidt also drove in a pair of runs, while Herbenbach and White both drove in three runs. In the latter half of the double-header, Hitters tallied on 16 runs on 10 hits against GRB. White followed up his strong performance in the first game with a pair of hits and an RBI. Joseph Suokko, Jaxon Clayton, and Tyler Gress all had multi-hit performances. Suokko and Gress each added 2 RBI, Clayton had 4 RBI, and Cameron Carter also drove in a pair.
+ CF Luke Lehnen on 13U PTA Cardinal (2025), had a 3-for-3 day where all three of his hits went to the opposite field, one of which was a double in the right-center gap. He also had a sliding catch in centerfield on a ball that was diving fast.
