PBR Wisconsin Player of the Week: INF/RHP Kaleb Zabielski
May 3, 2023
The Burlington Demons have played spoiler to a number of Power 25 teams this year and are certainly a team our staff has kept an eye on this season. INF/RHP Kaleb Zabielski (2023) has been a huge part of that, especially this past week and he has earned our ‘Player of the Week’ honors as a result.
The Demons started off their week with a two-game sweep of a solid Westosha Central squad. In game one, Zabielski tallied a pair of singles, and scored one run. He also notched the win on the mound as he allowed just two runs on three hits, and struck out ten. He followed this performance up with a 4-for-4 performance in game two of the series on Thursday and helped Burlington to the sweep.
Then on Saturday, Zabielski and his Demon squad handed then-ranked No. 1 Kimberly their second in-state loss of the season. In that major upset win, Zabielski came in to pitch the final 2.2 innings and he notched the win as he held the Papermakers scoreless, while striking out a pair. In the second game of that Saturday, Burlington took on the Jefferson Eagles and they cruised to a 7-2 win. In that win, Zabielski continued his hot streak at the plate as he added three more singles, and scored two runs from the lead off spot.
In total, Zabielski tallied 10 hits in 12 at-bats last week, scored six runs, and added in seven stolen bases. On the mound he earned two wins over some tough competition to help Burlington add four more wins to their record.
In the winter, Zabielski came out to the Kenosha Preseason ID and he left as an arrow-up name to know in the state, here is what our staff had to say following his performance there…
“Zabielski is a two-way prospect who performed well at the showcase on Saturday. First, at the plate, Zabielski used his mechanically sound swing to spray line drives all over the field with a max EV in the high-80s. He continued his strong showing in the infield with his soft hands and quick feet to field through the ball and make accurate throws through first base. On the mound, Zabileski showcased an athletic repeatable delivery and a fastball up to 85.7 mph through areas of the zone for strikes. He also used his bigger lateral breaking curveball both in the zone for strikes and expanding below to get chase’s and swing and miss. His slider was a shorter, quicker lateral breaking ball and he flashed a potential weapon in his change-up with late depth and fade.”
