GRAND CHUTE, Wis.—Nick Winter mowed down Lodi’s lineup to guide Milwaukee Lutheran to a 4-1 win over the Blue Devils in the Division 2 state semifinals.

Winter punched out 15 batters in a historic performance on the mound. His strikeout tally is tied for the fourth highest in a Division 2 state tournament game in history. He went the distance and allowed just three hits in a dominant outing.

The senior also provided offense for the defending champion Red Knights. He hit an RBI triple in the top of the first inning to give his team a 1-0 lead. TD Walker followed with an RBI single to double the lead, and after the half inning ended the score was 3-0.

Garret Wegner had the only notable offense against Winter. He hit an RBI double in the bottom of the first inning to cut the lead to two.

From there, it was smooth sailing for Winter and the Red Knights. Lodi never really got much else going, and they struggled to even put the ball in play for most of the game.

Winter hit an RBI double in the fifth inning to add an insurance run for the Red Knights.

It would have been tough to improve on his performance in last year’s semifinals, but Winter did just that. He bested last year’s one-hitter with eight strikeouts with a game for the record books.

Milwaukee Lutheran will face the winner of the semifinal between Waupaca and West Salem on Thursday afternoon in the Division 2 state championship game.
