Inside the Rankings: 2019 Newcomers

With the 2019 rankings expanded to 40, several new players have been added to the list. We touched on the top new addition to the rankings last week as Madison West catcher Drake Baldwin comes in at No. 6. Baldwin is a physical left-handed hitting catcher with a ton of bat strength and a strong arm. At 6-foot, 186-pounds he wears the gear well behind the plate, is a solid receiver with a strong will to block the baseball.

Trent Turzenski, a right-handed pitcher from Burlington HS made the top 20. Turzenski is a 6-foot-3, 180-pound righty who projects well on the mound. His arm action is clean with a big frame and shows the ability to work downhill. OF Scott Savage (Hartford Union, 2019) also joins Turzenski in the top 20, Savage has a power bat that he swings with effort and strength. An overall good athlete, his bat will be the tool to follow.

Lake Country Lutheran’s Tyler Brandenburg is also a bat to follow. A corner infield defender, Bradenburg also carries pop in his bat out of a strong 6-foot-3, 200-pound frame. Rounding out top 30 newcomers is catcher Connor Handel (Edgewood). Handel has a solid all-around game with bat speed, solid receiver and arm from the crouch.

More newcomers inside the top 40:

Jacob Neese (Sheboygan North) – Lean body infielder with loose bat speed.

Jimmy Juergensen (Living Word Lutheran) – Big left-handed bat with pop.

Patton Germann (Sussex-Hamilton) – Speedy infielder, can be a nuisance on the bases.

Braedon Franz (Stevens Point) – Undersized right-handed pitcher with big arm speed. Fastball up to 82 mph.

Nathan Ebersole (Whitefish Bay) – Smaller body type with good hands, can defend the middle on the infield.

Dane Weiland (Chippewa Falls) – Physical C/RHP, raw strength in his tools.

Ian Knuth (Oconomowoc) – Line drive hitter with good wheels.

Jack Fentress (Eau Claire Memorial) – Catcher with projectable frame.

Jason Jennerjohn (Hortonville) – Quick armed RHP with feel for three pitches.

Brent Widder (Sheboygan North) – Lean infielder with soft hands.
