Inside The Rankings: 2016 New Additions

By Steve Nielsen
Scouting Supervisor –Wisconsin/Illinois

This week Wisconsin launched its updated 2016 rankings. With the fall season in the rear view mirror we head into the off-season with several new prospects added to our rankings. A dozen new names found their way into the 2016 rankings, several of those popping up at recent events like the Unsigned Senior Games at Kapco Park.

RHP Connor Neeck (Grafton) is the top ranked newcomer to the rankings as a top 45 prospect. Neeck caught our attention at the USG (Unsigned Senior Games) with an 87 mph fastball and a quick arm, standing 6-foot-2, 175-pounds he looks to be one of the best available arms still in the state.----WI 2016 Update Rankings Slide - PBR_UpdatedRankings_WI.jpg

Jacob Sandy (Brookfield Central), a recent UW-La Crosse commit ranked as one of the top five outfielders at the USG and fell into the top 80 in the state.

Pitchers Justin Weber (New Holstein) and Jonah Nosek (Kettle Moraine) both cracked the top 100 after strong outings at the USG. As well as Kale Knaub (Port Washington) who narrowly missed the last rankings overhaul, Knaub show swing and miss type stuff striking out the side in an inning of work.

Expanding the rankings to 115 allowed us to add several more recruitable pitchers to the mix, including LHP Tyler Rouze (De Pere), RHP Jake Lange (Mukwonago), RHP Grant Steinike (Cedrburg) and RHP Tyler Bujanowski (Oak Creek).

Others of note included all-state mentions RHP Alex Schulte (Aquinas) and Turner Wittig (Bay Port) who also showed good stuff on the mound this summer.

Later this week we will touch on some of the top risers to the rankings.
