Illinois 2019 D-II Recruiting Classes

Within this post, we’ll be breaking down all four of Illinois’ Division-II programs and their incoming 2019 recruiting classes, from both in-state and out-of-state perspectives. Thirteen Illinois seniors will be sticking around their home state to pursue baseball at the next level, eight of whom are on the state's Class of 2019 Rankings. We’ll be breaking things down, program by program, in-depth below.

The Lewis Flyers are bringing in a collection of five prospects within their 2019 recruiting class. After hauling in 10 players from the Prairie State last season, head coach Tim McDonough stayed the course with all five of this year's recruits coming from within the Illinois borders. Three of the five players listed above fall within the PBR Illinois top-150 rankings, and the highest-ranked of the group is Jacob Karaba (Neuqua Valley). Karaba is an athletic right-handed pitcher who has plenty of upside and pitchability with a fastball in the mid- to upper-80s and a true weapon in a hard, biting slider that we’ve seen generate multiple swings and misses last season. Angelo Cantelo (Marian Catholic) is a stocky, strong right-handed-hitting catcher who should be able to contribute on arrival for the Flyers. He has a knack for putting the barrel to the ball in the strike zone with pull-side power potential and feel for the position defensively. Patrick Keaty (South Elgin) has the tools to stick in the middle of the diamond defensively for Lewis in the coming years. A sub-7.00 runner in the 60-yard dash, Keaty has soft hands, maintains body control, and can make throws from multiple arm slots across the diamond.
Jake Schwartz (Lake Zurich) and Jake Huisman (Glenbard East) are the final two players heading to Romeoville after their senior campaigns. Both are lanky, athletic right-handed pitchers who will look to carve a role in the Flyers’ pitching staff next fall. Coach McDonough has a nice crop of players to add to his roster in his upcoming 12th season as skipper for the Flyers.
