GPA Games: Catcher Analysis

The GPA Games took place on Sunday August 13th at Lee Pfund Field in Carol Stream, Illinois. Players took part in a pro style workout and gameplay in front of the PBR Scouting Staff. Today we start the event analysis with the catcher reports. Mikey Strong showed off raw arm strength throwing 78 mph from the crouch and popping 2.17-2.26.

Ryan Balcerzak, C, Erie Mason Senior (MI), 2019
5-foot-9, 170-pound right-handed hitting catcher. Offensively hits from a closed setup with a leg lift stride and average balance. Opposite field hitter with a short, uphill swing path. 85 mph exit velocity from a tee. Ran the 60 at 8.40. Defensively has a short arm action from a high ¾ slot. Tall receiver, rises out of crouch early. Popped 2.12-2.25 and threw 65 mph from the crouch.
Sean Blanchard, C, Plainfield East, 2019
5-foot-11, 155-pound right-handed hitting catcher. Defensively has a short arm action from a high ¾ slot, accurate throws from the crouch. Low target with flexibility in the lower half. Popped 2.14-2.19 and threw 76 mph out of the crouch. At the plate open setup, leg kick stride, fair balance. Pull hitter with a long, uphill swing path. 77 mph exit velocity from a tee. Ran the 60 at 7.25.
Cameron Brice, C, Valparaiso (IN), 2018
6-foot-3, 215-pound right-handed hitting catcher. Offensively hits from a tall, open setup. Leg kick stride with average balance. Pull hitter with a long, uphill swing path. 88 mph exit velocity from a tee. Ran the 60 at 8.10. Defensively popped 2.44-2.60 and threw 65 mph from the crouch.
AJ Foeckler, C, Marquette University (WI), 2019
6-foot, 165-pound right-handed hitting catcher with a lanky frame. Offensively hits from a slightly open setup. Short leg kick stride with a long, uphill swing path. 78 mph exit velocity from a tee. Ran the 60 at 7.63. Defensively has a long arm action form an over the top slot. Popped 2.43-2.75 and threw 62 mph from the crouch.
Benton Holly, C/1B, Mundelein, 2018
6-foot-2, 190-pound right-handed hitting C/1B with a strong frame. At the plate hits from an open setup, leg kick stride, average balance. Short, uphill swing path. 84 mph exit velocity from a tee. Ran the 60 at 7.82. Defensively took drills behind the plate and at first. Short arm action from an over the top slot. Clean exchange. Popped 2.25-2.43 and threw 70 mph from the crouch. Threw 71 mph across the infield.
Henry Jacobs, C, Edgewood (WI), 2018
6-foot, 198-pound right-handed hitting catcher. Offensively hits from a balanced setup, leg kick stride with average balance. Opposite field hitter with a short, uphill swing path. 85 mph exit velocity from a tee. Ran the 60 at 7.56. Defensively has a short arm action from an over the top slot. Fluid footwork behind the plate with flexibility in the lower half. Popped 2.19-2.32 and threw 74 mph from the crouch.
Chris Karasinski, SS/C, Glenbrook North, 2019
5-foot-10, 165-pound right-handed hitting SS/C. Defensively has a short arm action from a high ¾ slot. Quick footwork, plays thru the ball, good body control on the run. Threw 76 mph acorss the infield. Also took drills behind the plate showing a quick exchange, with accurate throws. Popped 2.05-2.12 and threw 74 mph from the crouch. Offensively hits from a balanced setup. Leg lift stride with a long, uphill swing path. Opposite field hitter. 85 mph exit velocity from a tee. Ran the 60 at 7.29.
Mikey Strong, C/RHP/OF, St. Thomas Aquinas (KS), 2018
Currently ranked No. 31 in the Kansas Class of 2018. 6-foot-3, 190-pound right-handed hitting utility player. Showed the best all around arm strength at the event. Threw 88 mph from the outfield, 78 mph out of the crouch, and topped out at 85 mph on the mound. Defensively behind the plate has a short arm action from a high ¾ slot. Blocks pitches well. Popped 2.17-2.26. In the outfield showed off raw arm strength and actions. Accurate throws with carry, threw and event best 88 mph from the outfield. Offensively hits from a balanced setup with a short leg lift stride and good balance. Line drive hitter works gap to gap. Uphill swing path with fast hands and fluid rhythm. 83 mph exit velocity from a tee. Ran the 60 at 8.12. On the mound works from a high ¾ arm angle with a short arm action. Works exclusively out of the stretch. Tall and fall delivery working in line with home plate. Fastball has running action at 81-84 topping out at 85 mph. Curveball has 11-5 shape at 68-70 mph. Slows arm on changeup at 71-73 mph.

6-foot, 190-pound right-handed hitting catcher. Tall, open setup at the plate. Short leg lift stride with fiar balance. Pull hitter with a long, uphill swing path. 80 mph exit velocity from a tee. Ran the 60 at 7.63. Defensively has a short arm action from a high ¾ slot. Popped 2.25-2.34 and threw 73 mph from the crouch.
Peyton Tracy, C, Taylor (IN), 2018
5-foot-9, 155-pound right-handed hitting catcher. Defensively has a short arm action from an over the top slot. Rises out of crouch early. Popped 2.08-2.13 and threw 74 mph from the crouch. Offensively tall, narrow stance, low hand set. Short stride with fair balance. Short, uphill swing path. 87 mph exit velocity from a tee. Ran the 60 at 7.80.
Cameron Zimmerman, C, West Aurora, 2018
5-foot-5, 155-pound right-handed hitting catcher with a strong, compact frame. Offensively hits from a tall setup with a leg lift stride and average balance. Uphill swing path with fluid rhythm. Line drive approach. Showed strength thru contact with 90 mph exit velocity from a tee. Ran the 60 at 7.29. Defensively has a short arm action from an over the top slot. Clean exchange with accurate throws. Popped 2.07-2.15 and threw 71 mph from the crouch.
