Future Prospects Showcase - Madison: Statistical Analysis

On Saturday, March 14, the PBR Wisconsin team hosted its annual 7th and 8th grade showcase at GRB Academy: Future Prospects Showcase - Madison.

This showcase has a dual function: to teach prospects about the showcase atmosphere and the recruiting process as well as to identify young talent who will be in the mix for invitations later in the year to join us for the annual PBR Junior Future Games event in August. For more information on this year’s Junior Future Games event, click here.

Saturday’s showcase was a success because we were able to add some 2024 talent to our follow list as potential Junior Future Games representatives. We’ll be taking a closer look at events this summer, like at the 13 & 14U PBR at The Rock Championships in May.

Today, we’re going to look at the statistical leaderboards from the showcase to highlight some of the day’s top performers. Videos from Saturday’s event will be placed inside player profiles in the next couple of weeks and scouting reports will be compiled and written in the few weeks following that.

Here’s a more statistical look at the day’s top prospects:

MAX FASTBALL VELOCITY

Bay Port’s Craig Kabat (2024) showed well from both the mound and elsewhere, and you’ll find that out for yourself on more charts below. Specifically from the bump, Kabat topped the fastball charts with a 78 mph high, which he hit multiple times, sitting 76-78. The 5-foot-7, 135-pound Ashwaubenon prospect, RHP/INF Eason Hurd (2024), actually showed well a couple times in front of our staff in 2019 as a physical 2024 follow and he reasserted himself on Saturday, up to 77 mph with advanced feel for his change and curve. De Pere’s Javin Gauthier may have broke out as one of the top follows in the state’s 2024 class with his performance and Sunday that showed itself on various leaderboards and he was up to 76 mph on the mound, too. LHPs Bradyn Horn (Muskego, 2024) and Logan Dunn (Wautoma, 2024) topped the fastball leaderboard from the left side at 75 and 74 mph, respectively. Dunn most notably had some exceptional, early feel for his offspeed, especially his sharp breaking ball.

TOP 60-YARD DASH

INF Cooper Kamlay (Franklin, 2024) bursted to a 7.06 mark in the 60-yard dash, an advanced time for a player his age and he was also up to 75 mph on the mound. Horn’s athleticism appeared here, too, and he was another one of the top prospects that came out of Saturday. He ran a 7.33 which was tied with Sam Vargas (Arrowhead, 2024). Hurd ran a 7.36 which was a good mark for his physicality. From Minnesota, INF/OF Will Deets (Aquinas, 2024) had a strong day across the board and was a fraction behind Hurd on this board.

TOP EXIT VELOCITY

Stocky, strong, compact Leo Lauscher (Eau Claire Memorial, 2024) took one of the most robust rounds of BP and it showed up at the exit velocity station, too, where he led the group by a large margin, topping 91 mph from the tee. Gauthier has a loose, fast left-handed bat and he topped 83 mph here, as did INF Jack Klippel (Slinger, 2024). Hurd appears here, too, naturally with his natural bat strength that helped him top 82 mph from the tee. Another noteworthy left-handed bat to note here is Issei Takahashi (Arrowhead, 2024), who recorded an 80 mph high at this station. C Donatello Baldamenti (Pulaski, 2024) has advanced, sturdy strength which helped him take a loud round of BP, and he topped 80 mph off the tee himself.

TOP INFIELD VELOCITY

Naturally, the big frames belonging to Hurd and especially Gauthier helped the two finish one-two on this chart, with 75 and 74 mph highs. Manitowoc Lincoln’s INF/RHP Noah Wech (2024) is a follow for his easy actions all over, from the mound to the infield, outfield, and to the right-handed batter’s box. He reached a 71 mph high across the diamond on his throws to first. That 71 mph top was tied with Verona’s Max Jones (2024) and Wisconsin Lutheran’s Eddie Rynders (2024).

TOP OUTFIELD VELOCITY

Deets and Kabat led the way inside this group, at 80 mph to home, further establishing themselves as early, early follows inside their respective 2024 classes. Dunn was excellent on the mound and his above-average arm strength showed itself here. Wech also looked the part here, as did Horn.

TOP CATCHER VELOCITY

Two Pulaski backstops landed near the top of this chart. Cal Casper (2024) led the way with a 69 mph high. Baldamenti had a 67 mph top which was tied with Diego Sifuentes (Muskego, 2024).

TOP POP TIMES

Casper was the quickest and most efficient out of the crouch, aided by his above-average arm strength through the infield. The next set of prospects were all huddled together – Baldamenti, Aden Burke (Whitnall, 2025), Brady LaViolette (Notre Dame Academy, 2024).
