WESTFIELD, IN – The 2016 PBR Future Games kicked off on Thursday with the position player showcase as 16 team’s position players showcased their tools for over 150 recruiters in attendance. Some impressive stat lines littered the event and the complete statistical recap and be found HERE.
Team Wisconsin was led by one of the best stat lines of the entire event when Ty Olejnik (Sussex Hamilton, 2018) ran an event best 6.54, threw it 88 mph from the outfield and hit 94 mph off the tee. The 6-foot3, 190-pound left handed throwing and hitting outfielder looked the part of a high end prospect with his projectable frame and toolsy repertoire.
Janesville Craig catcher Jacob Campbell also had a big day. Campbell tied the event high arm strength for catchers at 83 mph out of the crouch and ran a 6.98 laser timed 60, second best for the catchers. His 1.97 pop time fit right in the mix of the top catch and throw guys of the day. Campbell’s bat was also of note as one of the better rounds of BP and a 92 mph exit velocity from the tee.
Infielders Evan Albrecht (West Bend West, 2018) and Noah Berghamer (Janesville Craig, 2018) showed of advanced speed at 6.89 and 6.69 respectively while flashing soft hands and actions at shortstop. Tanner Kohlhepp’s (Eau Claire Memorial, 2018) left-handed bat stood out in middle infield BP as the 6-foot-2, 165-pounder projects well in the box with a good sense of his barrel.
The left-handed bats of the outfield group also showed well, as mention above Olejnik stole the show with his stat line, but Gunner Peterson (Wilmot, 2018) Alan Roden (Middleton, 2018) and Jordan Bailey (Janesville Parker, 2018) all showed well. Peterson’s ability to drive the baseball with backspin to both gaps was impressive.
Wisconsin will head into game play tomorrow with a 7:00 pm matchup versus Team Minnesota/Iowa. Here’s a look at Team Wisconsin’s complete stats.
