Eau Claire Memorial drops No. 11 Stoughton

MAUSTON, WI – At the Woodside Sports Complex, No. 11 Stoughton and Eau Claire Memorial kicked things off as the Old Abes ran away with a 14-6 win.

Stoughton never got the bats going as junior RHP Travis Berg handled the Viking lineup, pitching mostly off of his fastball. Stoughton scored their six runs all in the third inning, most of which could be contributed to porous Memorial defense. The Old Abes committed three errors in the inning leading to six runs on four hits. Stoughton managed just one other hit outside of that inning.

Memorial took the lead early with a seven run second inning, again large in part to the opposing team’s miscues. This time Memorial took advantage of some errant pitching. Memorial got six batters on base in the inning via either the walk or hit by pitch. The Old Abes tacked on five more again in the fifth to take a 12-6 lead and didn’t look back.

RHP Travis Berg recorded the win, pitching four solid innings of four hit baseball. Berg surrendered six runs, none of which were earned and struck out three while walking four.

C Eli Traaseth drove in two runs on a 1-for-4 day with a double.

Both team will resume action in the Woodside High School Challenge tomorrow with double headers as Memorial will take on Marshfield and St. Louis Park (MN) while Stoughton will face Menomonie and Eau Claire North.
