OF/LHP Logan Dunn (Wautoma, 2024; Missouri State commit) is the 2024 Prep Baseball Wisconsin Player of the Year after posting yet another historic season as a two-way star for the Hornets this past spring.

Nestled in the woodlands of central Wisconsin lies Wautoma, a 2,230-person community that’s about 40 miles west of Oshkosh. It’s in this small town where Dunn has made his impact known during his prep career—expanding his presence, skill set throughout the entire state.

“Ever since I’ve been in high school, there’s been just such a blue collar [mentality], we’ve worked for everything we got,” Dunn said about Wautoma.

Dunn and the Hornets competed in the South Central Conference, where the senior went on to win Player of the Year for the first time this past season. Ever since his freshman season, he has been a member of the First Team All-Conference group.

The Missouri State commit was a cheat code during his high school career. Dunn took over the leadoff spot for this program—forcing opponents to face him or live with the aftermath. It was laid out in the numbers pretty clearly throughout his 2024 campaign.

It started with his presence at the plate in an athletic 6-foot, 185-pound frame. The left-handed hitter packs a punch with a high leg kick and always seems to be in attack mode in the batters box.

“I like to be aggressive, taking that first pitch and going the other way with it or pulling it,” Dunn said on his approach from the leadoff spot.

Bat-to-ball contact has always been a standout trait for Dunn, and was one of the many factors that separated him from most this year. He hit .621 and racked up 41 hits during his senior season—including 15 multi-hit games. The senior tallied 14 doubles, four triples and a home run in the process—generating easy power on a consistent basis. His lone home run proved to be vital for Wautoma as well, where Dunn gave his team the lead with a go-ahead grand slam against Westfield.

“They walked a couple of guys and I knew the situation, took some deep breaths, which is very important when I’m in the box,” Dunn said about the scenario. “I let the hands fly, it was a big moment and felt pretty cool.”

Even when he didn’t produce extra base hits, Dunn made up for it by putting constant pressure on opposing teams on the basepaths. He went on to swipe 37 bags in 2024—making a difference for this offense in an instant while scoring 43 times on the year.

“The biggest thing is getting that first step,” Dunn said on stealing bases consistently. “...Knowing when the pitcher is going to go, the count has to be perfect, and all of those things align.”

Over the past two seasons on the varsity stage, Dunn struck out six times in 45 games. In that span, he accumulated 45 walks—tallying an average of one per game. In 2024, his OBP ended at an impressive .737, a number minimal compared to in the WIAA. Dunn’s OPS of 1.737 summarized his dominance against his competition this spring on the offensive end.

To add one final dynamic to his high school career, the left-hander was the ace for this Wautoma pitching staff for multiple years. In one of his final starts of the season, Dunn battled against Omro and struck out 12 batters in a quality outing—earning the win for the Hornets in their first playoff game. He came back a couple of days later and held down the No. 1 seed in Laconia to advance his team to the Regional Final.

Dunn finished the year with 85 strikeouts in 47.2 innings of work. He won six games on the season and racked up two saves, all while playing a stellar centerfield in the meantime.

He did it all for Wautoma in four seasons of action. Dunn finished his illustrious career with program records for batting average and stolen bases (111)—leading the Hornets to a 68-25 record since the 2021 season.

Dunn is now the third Prep Baseball Wisconsin Player of the Year to play at a non-Division 1 school in the state, joining brothers RHP/SS Owen Washburn (Webster, 2021; Texas Tech) and RHP/OF Jack Washburn (Webster, 2019; Mississippi). It speaks volumes to his prowess on the diamond—emerging as an electric player in the WIAA, despite maintaining a quiet, under-the-radar status throughout.

The senior consistently performed at the highest level when his team relied on him most, a characteristic that followed him throughout past seasons outside of Wautoma, too. Dunn now etches his name in with some of the legends of Wisconsin high school baseball past—fitting the mold as a small-town, hard-nosed athlete who plays the game the right way.

Dunn will bring those traits to Missouri State this fall, a program that fits his repertoire perfectly: Scrappy, competitive baseball that brings out the best in its players.

“The people down there, the culture, is very fun,” Dunn said about Missouri State’s background. “All of the guys are really caring and they care about you just as much as they do about themselves…really excited to get down there.”
