15U at the Rock: Five to Follow | Outfielders

The PBR Wisconsin-hosted 15U at The Rock Championships took place at The Rock Sports Complex in Franklin, Wis., last weekend and completely lived up to our staff's lofty expectations. There was highly competitive baseball throughout the whole tournament, and with many of the Midwest’s best teams in attendance, it was a great opportunity for us to see some of the top talent in the region.

In the next portion of our tournament coverage, we will begin to highlight the best-of-the-rest, the prospects you need to know after those named to our All-Tournament roster. This article will specifically breakdown the top outfielders in attendance, after the four named to the all-tourney team.

Outfield

Joey Little, OF, Lake Zurich (IL), 2022 | Prairie Gravel
Strong build, athletic frame. Batted fourth in the lineup for Prairie Gravel on Thursday against Minnesota Millers. Went 2 for 2 with 2 singles, a sacrifice fly to center field, and 2 rbis. Athletic build with an open setup, a level, fluid swing, and quick twitch hands. Physical presence in the box, ball jumps off the barrel, mostly gap to gap line drive approach.

Addison Ostrenga, OF, Sun Prairie (WI), 2022 | GRB Rays Green
6-foot-4, 195-pound strong and projectable frame with long limbs. At the plate, starts in a balanced, slightly crouched stance. Short stride, hands fall into load, short and uphill path to the baseball. Pull side approach. Consistent hard contact. Finished 2-3 with a single, found the barrel for a double, and 2 RBI in a 9-1 victory. In the field, played RF. Made a diving catch on a ball hit to the right-center gap and showed accuracy and arm strength by doubling off the runner at 2nd base. 

Charlie Saul, OF, Batavia (IL), 2022 | Illinois Indians Red
To say Saul had himself a game against CBT is an understatement. The 5-foot-10, 160-pound first basement has an athletic build with a projectable frame. At the plate, Saul starts in a tall and open setup, a high leg kick stride, and his hands fall back into his load. He showed short and level swing path paired with great feel for the barrel. He finished the game 4-4 with a single, a pair of two-run doubles, and a three-run triple. He showcased gap-to-gap power as well, as all three of his extra base hits went to different parts of the field. In the field, Saul’s athleticism allows him to play a variety of positions. He saw action at 4 different positions this weekend, starting a game behind the plate, one at second, one at first, and one in the outfield.

Jayden Cummings, OF, St. Laurence (IL), 2022 | RakeCity
Rake City leadoff hitter, showcased game-changing type of speed on the bases. Cummings pulled up early on a groundout to first base and ran a 4.43 down-the-line. He followed that up with a 4.30 on a groundout to shortstop in his final at-bat. Cummings also scored from second base on an errant pickoff throw that did not leave the infield. Highly-athletic, table-setter type.

Mikey O’Conor, OF, Notre Dame Prep (IL), 2022 | Illinois Indians
5-foot-8, 150-pound lanky/athletic right-handed-hitting outfielder. In the box, simple approach, balanced/relaxed setup. Advanced feel for balls and strikes, aggressive swings. Feel for the barrel is advanced, too, capable of driving the ball from foul pole to foul pole. Simple weight shift back load, short hands to the ball, loose/quick bat speed. Led off for the Indians all week and got off to a hot start, going 3-for-3 in the team’s first game on Thursday with three doubles.
