Quick Hits - Seattle Preseason ID (Session I)

On Saturday, Jan. 27th we were at the Mariners Training Center in Puyallup, WA for our first session of the Seattle Preseason ID events. Featuring prospects in the 2024-2027 classes from across the state. 

Preseason ID events serve as an identifier heading into the spring high school season, giving our scouts as well as college recruiters, a list of prospects to follow as they plan their spring coverage. We also tend to see prospects’ best performances in the preseason, as most athletes are fresh and coming off of strict and targeted off-season training programs that have resulted in big gains, primed for updating their Prep Baseball profile. All of which lends the perfect opportunity to secure invitations to some of the summer's biggest invite-only events such as the Top Prospect Games, Prep Baseball Future Games, and more.

SEATTLE PRESEASON ID (1.27.24)

'26 RHP/OF Johnathan Bourque (North Kitsap)
Lean, highly projectable athlete at 6'2, 175 with an athletic trim and long levers. Showed athletic traits during the OF workout with sound footwork and a loose, clean arm. Gets leverage at the plate with chance to lift the ball to all fields. Gave a loud performance on the mound and showed some of the best pure stuff at the event. FB presently 82.5 - 83.4 with more velo on the way as he matures. SL/CH work well as secondaries with SL especially flashing above average on this look. 

'26 RHP John Browand (Peninsula)
6'7 athlete with a high waisted frame and big projectable to the build. Worked downhill in the zone for strikes with multiple offerings. Commands FB well & stays behind the ball. Ranged 78.2 - 79.4 and there will be bigger numbers on the way soon. Simple, repeatable mechanics for a taller, big bodied arm.

'27 C/INF Pete Browand (Peninsula)
One of the more advanced bats in the '27 class who is trending up rapidly. Offensively possesses a high ceiling thanks to the swing path, bat speed and strength. Has the chance to hit for power while also consistent making flush contact. Defensively the arm strength plays anywhere on the field but the future might be brighest as a hard hitting C with his ability to receive and control the run game. Moves well on the INF and is more than capable of defending on the dirt. 

'25 OF/INF Bryce Dayley (Graham Kapowsin)
Athletic prospect at 5'10, 170 with lean, wiry strength and power in the lower half. Strong arm from both INF and OF. Moves easily with functional athleticism & body control from both spots. Offensively produces hard contact with quick, strong hands and a firm front side at contact, giving him extra leverage to drive the ball. 

'26 C/RHP Tilden Hsu (Lakeside)
Polished switch-hitting catcher with the ability to pitch. Natural righty who produces slightly more power as a RHH but also puts a smooth, fluid swing on the ball from the left-side. Defensively is a quiet receiver with an easy exchange out of the crouch. Pitched 83-85 on the mound with a mechanically sound delivery and loose, easy arm action. 

'26 OF/LHP Rodrigo Montano (Eastlake)
Wiry, compact athlete with some twitch in his game. Short, quick footwork in the OF with closing speed. Gets around the ball when moving laterally. Strong arm with true ball flight. Quick, direct swing from the left-side with a 'handsy' approach that should play to all fields. Pitched 78-80 on the mound with a sharp, sweeping breaker and developing feel for a CH. 

'25 RHP Samuel Nicholson (Hazen)
Arguably the top performer at the event. Nicholson was 89.9 - 90.7 with a lively FB and showed the makings of quality secondary stuff with his CB/CH. CB has the chance to be above average as it gets more consistent. Strong bodied athlete who moves easily from the ground up and creates tremendous energy through his core. Loose, quick arm action with late intent out front. High upside arm to track in the 2025 class. 

'26 OF/RHP Ellis Oeltjen (Bellevue)
6'1, 170 with broad upper half and present strength in the lower body. Athletic frame. Offensively moves the barrel easily with tight rotation and short levers to the ball. Hits the ball hard easily. Size/strength and speed project well to the OF long-term. Arm up to 82 mph with accuracy. On the mound pitched 79-81 with a tight SL as best secondary and feel for a CH. 

'26 LHP/1B Atticus Stanfield (Lincoln)
Physical 2-way prospect at 6'3, 180 lbs. Athletic burst as a runner out of the gate. Moves easily around the bag at 1B while giving a large catch radius. Offensively showed bat speed and power potential with a gap to gap type approach. On the mound, attacks from a lower, left-handed slot with a FB/SL/CH mix. Velo presently 78-81 and plays up coming from a tougher angle.
