Former WA High School Players in MLB and MiLB Pt. 2

A lot of awesome call-ups this season to go over in this second edition of former Washington high schoolers who have played affiliated ball this season.

Adam Cimber Puyallup HS '10/Los Angeles Angels

Cimber made his major-league debut in 2018 after being drafted in 2013 by the Padres. He had great seasons in 2021 and 2022, sub-3 ERA seasons. In 2022, he led the league in game appearances by a relief pitcher with 77, recording a WHIP of 1.118 and throwing 70 2/3 innings.

Riley O'Brien Shorewood HS '13/St. Louis Cardinals

After being drafted in the 8th round out of the College of Idaho by the Tampa Bay Rays in the 2017 MLB Draft, O'Brien made his MLB debut with the Cincinnati Reds in 2021 and has since made MLB appearances for the Seattle Mariners and the St. Louis Cardinals. His best professional season thus far was in 2023, where he threw 55 innings for Triple-A Tacoma to the tune of a 2.29 ERA. He also posted 86 strikeouts and a WHIP of 1.218 in this season. O'Brien is currently on the 60-day IL with a right flexor tendon strain. 

Levi Jordan Puyallup HS '14/Cincinnati Reds

Jordan broke through this season with the Reds big-league club to make his major-league debut after being drafted in 2018 following a stellar career at the University of Washington. Overall this season, Jordan has been tearing it up with their Triple-A affiliate the Louisville Bats, where he currently holds a .302 AVG across 219 plate appearances. He also has stolen 24 bags in 54 games.

Austin Shenton Bellingham HS '16/Tampa Bay Rays

Shenton also made his big-league debut this season on March 31, 2024 and has already played in 17 games for the Rays. He posted a .307 AVG with the Double-A affiliate Montgomery Biscuits last season that included 306 plate appearances across 73 games. Shenton hit .304 overall last season professionally including the Biscuits and Triple-A Durham Bulls. Accruing 276 total bases across 134 games and putting up an OPS over 1.000.

 Austin Voth Kentwood HS '11/Seattle Mariners

Voth made his big-league debut on July 14th, 2018 with the Washington Nationals against the New York Mets. He had an ERA+ of 137 in 2019 with the Nationals (league average being 100). Voth pitched for Baltimore's big-league club for two seasons before starting his time with the Mariners this season. With the M's this season he has thrown 31 1/3 innings, posted a 3.73 ERA, and a minuscule WHIP of .957. 

Ryan Walker Arlington HS '14/San Francisco Giants

Walker made his debut for the Giants on May 21st, 2023 against the Miami Marlins. This season, through June 25th he leads the ENTIRE LEAGUE in appearances working 40 games out of the bullpen for the Giants. He currently holds a 2.23 ERA, an ERA+ of 171, 11.8 K's per 9 innings pitched, and a fielding independent pitching of 2.14 over 40 1/3 innings. 

 Aaron Davenport Cedarcrest HS '18/Cleveland Guardians

Davenport has been hot this season in Double-A for the Guardians with Akron RubberDucks. He is 5-2 with a 2.26 ERA in 71 2/3 innings with 60 strikeouts and a 1.088 WHIP. He has started every game he has appeared in (13).

Jacob Bresnahan Sumner HS '23/Cleveland Guardians

In his first full season of pro ball, Bresnahan has pitched well in the Arizona Complex League for the Guardians. The former Sumner Spartan has a 2.73 ERA and has the strikeout stuff working, with 39 strikeouts in 33 innings, for a 13.4 K/9 clip.   

Trent Sellers Kennewick HS '18/New York Yankees

After stops at Washington State University and Columbia Basin College, my former teammate made headlines pitching at Lewis-Clark State and then as the Friday night guy for a season at Oregon State. This season with High-A Hudson Valley Renegades he has thrown 38 innings and K'd 47 batters. He also made his Triple-A debut in April.

Mason Martin Southridge HS '17

Martin played in 30 games and accrued 112 at-bats for his hometown Tri-City Dust Devils, High-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels this season. His best professional season thus far came in 2019, when he hit 35 bombs across multiple levels of Single-A ball for the Pittsburgh Pirates organization. 

Maxton Martin Southridge HS '23/Texas Rangers

After hitting .471 with 5 home runs his senior year at Southridge, Martin was taken in the 11th round by the Texas Rangers. He is currently hitting .260 in 20 games for the defending champs' rookie affiliate. He has 7 extra-base hits and almost an RBI per game with 19 through June 25th. 

Stevie Emanuels Interlake HS '17/Oakland Athletics

Across three levels of minor league ball last season (Rk-AA) Emanuels had his best year statistically professionally. Across 39 2/3 innings, he had a 2.04 ERA with 57 strikeouts, leading to a 12.9 K/9 clip, and also had a 1.16 WHIP.

Jordan Jones Kentwood HS '16/Cleveland Guardians

Jones enters his 5th minor league and professional season after being drafted out of the University of Washington in 2019. He posted a big year last season in Double-AA for the Akron RubberDucks, with a 2 ERA over 63 innings for the Guardians affiliate. His 1.19 WHIP was equally impressive from last season, he has thrown 28 innings so far again for the Double-AA affiliate.

Troy Johnston Rogers HS '16/Miami Marlins

Johnston has played parts of the past two seasons and this season with the Marlins Triple-AAA affiliate the Jacksonville JumboShrimp. He had 26 home runs with a .307 AVG across two levels (AA-AAA) last season for the org. and drove in 116. He was All-MiLB Prospect Second Team by MiLB.com last season and was also an organizational all-star.

A.J. Block Newport HS '16/Kansas City Royals

Block would be drafted out of high school in 2016 and then again in 2019 after playing at Washington State when he signed with the Kansas City Royals. After being hurt since 2021 when he had a great season, he is back in 2024 where he has thrown 29 2/3 innings for Kansas City's High-A affiliate the Quad Cities River Bandits. 3.64 ERA, 1.25 WHIP, and 11.2 K/9 are his current stats.

Eli Wilson Garfield HS '16/Pittsburgh Pirates

Wilson reached Triple-A with the Pirates org. this season and in 2021 when he had his best professional year to date. Across 3 levels of pro ball in that year he hit .287 AVG with a .426 OBP in 223 plate appearances. This year he is 2-7 in Triple-A Indianapolis Indians (.286) in 4 games played.

Matthew Boyd Eastside Catholic HS '10/Cleveland Guardians

Boyd just signed for his 10th major league season with the Cleveland Guardians on June 27th. He has thrown 868 2/3 big league innings since his debut in 2015 with the Toronto Blue Jays, an impressive number. He made his postseason debut in 2022 with the Seattle Mariners, his hometown team, and had a 1.35 ERA across 13 1/3 innings with the M's during the regular season. His 282 ERA+ was one of the best in baseball as a reliever in his role with the M's during their playoff push.

Adrian Sampson Skyline HS '10/Texas Rangers

Sampson is currently in Triple-A with the Round Rock Express. He has thrown 292 2/3 innings over 5 major-league seasons after making his debut in 2016 with his hometown Mariners. His 2022 campaign with the Cubs included throwing 104 1/3 innings, posting a 3.11 ERA and 1.227 WHIP.

Jake Lamb Bishop Blanchet HS '09

Lamb hit .289 this season over 234 plate appearances with the Pirates Triple-A Indianapolis Indians. He was an All-Star in 2017 with the Arizona Diamondbacks, finishing with 30 bombs and 30 doubles that year.

Spencer Green Richland HS '23/Los Angeles Dodgers

Green has yet to make his professional debut after being selected by the Dodgers last season. He is currently on the season-long injured list.

Jackson Cox Toutle Lake HS '22/Colorado Rockies

Cox was drafted in the 2nd round by the Rockies in '22. He threw 31 innings in 2023 for Colorado's Single-A Fresno Grizzles, recording his first professional win. He threw in 10 games in 2023, this season he is yet to appear in a professional game, on the Rockies' 60-day injured list.
