The Portland commit hits with a consistently mature approach at the plate, shows the ability to recognize spin and still handles velo when he gets challenged. Works slightly uphill through the zone and possesses quicker hands with gap to gap strength. Shows the ability to lag the barrel thru the zone when he's slightly off-balance and still generate hard contact. Puts a very simple, controlled move on the ball and lands in a hitting position that gives him advanced adjustability in his swing. Defensively, the 5-foot-11, 180-pounder is athletic enough to play multiple positions, we've seen him lock down a corner outfield spot and also float between 2B and 3B. Plays the game with a high motor at all times. 

PBR: Why did you choose Portland?
ES: Portland has great academics and the campus made me feel right at home. I also really wanted to be a part of the great things Coach Loomis and his staff are doing with the baseball program down on The Bluff.

PBR: When did you make your decision?
ES: The summer after my Sophomore year.

PBR: Where did the coaching staff first see you play? Who was your primary recruiter?
ES: The Portland coaching staff first watched me play during my Sophomore year at Puyallup HS. Coach Marc Wiese, my head coach at PHS, and Coach Sean Taunt, my head summer ball coach that year, helped me out tremendously with getting me in contact/seen by UP. My primary recruiters were Jake Valentine and Connor Lambert. I first got in contact with them during the Baseball NW Championships in 2018. 

PBR: Who do you play for in the summer/fall and what has that experience been like?
ES: I play for New Level Prep in the fall/summer. Coach Randy Anderson and my teammates have shown me what a true brotherhood is like and how important team chemistry really is. Also, because of our tight-knit squad, we have beaten some of the best teams in the country in big time tournaments. 

PBR: What is your most memorable baseball moment to date?
ES: Winning the Perfect Game MLK Championships in Arizona earlier this year with New Level.

PBR: Who is the toughest pitcher you have faced in Washington?
ES: Definitely Micheal Came and Tyler Hoeft, both I have tremendous respect for and I’m looking forward to facing this year.

PBR: Any pre-game superstitions?
ES: I like to do some visualization drills, I always chug a Red Bull during warmups, and I love getting my teammates fired up before games.

PBR: Favorite MLB player and why?
ES: Derek Jeter, because he leads by example with his character, work ethic, and confidence. Also, because he’s a “team first” kinda guy and that’s something I strive to be.
