2024 Prep Baseball Washington Player of the Year: Mason Pike
June 4, 2024
After a remarkable junior season, Puyallup's RHP/INF Mason Pike (Oregon State commit) has earned the 2024 Prep Baseball Washington Player of the Year award.
Pike was dominant on both sides of the ball, but was especially exceptional on the mound. The right hander finished the season with a 10-0 record, working 64 innings while allowing just 27 hits and 2 earned runs. Pike controlled the zone consistently, finishing with 93 strikeouts to just 17 walks. Consistent from the start to the end of the high school season, Pike showcased his talent on the biggest of stages, spinning 13 scoreless innings, allowing 3 hits and striking out 19 across two 4A state playoff appearances.
At the plate, the Oregon State commit was also a force, hitting .410 with 5 doubles, a triple, 2 HR, and 18 RBI. The switch hitter showed the ability to change the game from both sides of the plate and was a mainstay at the top of the Puyallup order. Pike's standout performance this season earned him 4A SPSL Player of the Year honors. Showing no signs of slowing down, Pike should be poised for a big senior year next spring and should be a in the hunt for Prep Baseball's Player of the Year award yet again in 2025.

From 5/30/24: ..."In perhaps the most dominant performance of the weekend, Pike spun a complete game gem in the state semi's for Puyallup. The junior overpowered hitters with a FB 92-94 and a SL 78-84. Filled up the zone consistently and showed ability to manipulate shapes of both offerings. Super advanced athlete moves with high intent down the mound. Finished with 7 IP, H, 0 R, 12 K. Also put up solid at-bats all weekend, including several hard hit balls across both games."

From 3/21/24: ... "Elite arm talent. Body control athlete. Competes in the zone with all 3 offerings. Late intent at release with balanced finish. Heavier life to FB. Late, sharp bite on SL with improved command as game went on. CH flashes + avg but wasn’t needed. Transitioning to a full starting role & already shows the poise/maturity to work deep into games and turn the line-up over as he keeps developing."
