Today we are releasing our weekly update to the Virginia/DC Power 25. Take a look at some new faces and some movement throughout the rankings.

  • For the second time in as many weeks, we have a new #1. Benedictine moves to the top spot, and will more than likely hold true there for the remainder of the year. Why? They had one of the hardest schedules in the state, the played fifteen programs that have at some point and time been in the Power 25, and they won all but two of those total ranked games. The pitching staff allowed 61 total runs on the year, which is only 2.17 runs allowed a game. Take out their two ten run games, they allowed 1.57 runs per game. The Cadets are your VISAA DI State Champions.

  • Greenbrier Christian moves up to #7, three spots higher than their previous ranking. The Gators wrapped up another succesful season with a VISAA DII State Championship. Even after losing their best defensive infielder and one of their senior leaders for the past few weeks, GCA showed toughness and the ability to compete up and down the lineup.

  • Freedom (South Riding) moves back in after a very long hiatus from the rankings. The Eagles are 11-1 in their last twelve games, including five wins vs Power 25 teams during that time. Coach Wright and company are a couple wins away from yet another trip back to the VHSL Class 6 State Tournament.

  • Also climbing into the rankings are the Woodgrove Wolverines. After a sub .500 year in 2023, the Wolverines have turned it around via some energy and strong play provided by two new faces. ODU commit Caleb Fletcher has been their workhorse on the mound this year, throwing 43.2 IP and has yet to allow an earned run in 2024. To go along with his 0.00 ERA, Fletcher is allowing a whopping .075 batting average allowed and racking up a nearly 15 K/7 ratio. In addition to Fletcher, the freshman phenom catcher, Bryan Miller, has been huge for this team. Fletcher's battery mate is batting over .500 and has accounted for more than 40 runs (RBI & runs scored). Outside of a loss to Loudoun County this past week, Woodgrove's other three losses have come by a total of four runs.
