Today we are releasing our weekly update to the Virginia/DC Power 25. Take a look at some new faces and some movement throughout the rankings.
- There are, and have been, a lot of question marks in the Power 25. Outside of the Top 5 or so, there are a lot of arguments to be made for the next thirty teams. At the end of the day, quality wins and strength of schedule are the two things that matter the most, especially when sorting through a group of teams with a similar number of losses.
- Liberty Christian is one of two undefeated teams in the state at 12-0. They won two games this past week versus a pair of opponents who both have found themselves in the Power 25 at some point this season.
- We have five new teams coming into the ranks, including the Maury Commodores. Maury is 11-1 and their lone loss was a one run loss to Nansemond River on March 14th. They have won ten straight, including a 3-1 win over #6 Cape Henry this past Wednesday. While they do not have a big strength of schedule, they have three quality wins this season and outside of their May 4th matchup with Grassfield, they have a fairly light schedule the rest of the way.
- The next five in group is very strong and definitely have an argument to slide inside of that 19-25 range. Who is the hottest of those five right now? Gainesville. The Cardinals have won ten of their last eleven, including a five run win over #14 Battlefield this past week. Gainesville had four games in eight days, with three of those games being versus quality opponents/arms.
