On Wednesday, August 10, Prep Baseball Report Virginia/DC hosted its Unsigned Senior Games for members of the Class of 2017 at Randolph-Macon College in Ashland. 54 players took part in the event and over a dozen colleges were present, representing NCAA Divisions I, II, and III. Over the coming weeks, we will break down each player’s performance. Last week, we began with the first group of pitchers, continued with the second group, and wrapped up with a final group. This week, we will look at the position players, starting with the catchers.

Mitchell Clarke, W.T. Woodson
Clarke has an athletic 6-1 frame. Throws from a high three-quarters arm slot with a short, loose action. Average arm strength, position velocity was 70. Soft hands, fluid footwork. Quick exchange and release, pop times 2.13-2.28. Hits from the right side with a crouched stance. Loads back with leg kick stride, decent lower half and average balance throughout swing. Short, level line drive swing. Doubles power to pull side, exit velocity was 82.

Michael Johnson, Cosby
Johnson stands 6-2 and has a strong frame with a strong lower half. Throws from a high three-quarters arm slot with short, loose arm action. Throws have carry and accuracy, position velocity was 78. Quick, clean exchange and good footwork with soft hands. Pop times were 2.02-2.09. Hits from right side with athletic stance. Leg kick stride and good lower half with average balance. Short bat path and good approach with a line drive swing, worked gap-to-gap. Exit velocity was 82.

Trevor Kiser, Windsor
Kiser is 5-9 and has an athletic frame. Behind the plate, throws from a three-quarters arm slot with a short arm action, position velocity was 73. Clean exchange and fluid footwork, pop times 2.20-2.41. At third base, same arm action, position velocity of 71. Average hands. Ran a 7.32 60. Hits from right side with an athletic stance. Decent lower half and average balance throughout swing. Level bat path with a pull approach, exit velocity was 83.

Josh Kisner, West Springfield
Kisner has an athletic 6-1 frame. Behind the plate, short, loose arm action and over the top slot, above average arm strength, 76 position velocity. Quick, clean release, pop times 2.07-2.23. At third base, long loose arm action, over the top slot, arm has carry and position velocity of 82. Fluid footwork and clean exchange. Hits from the right side from athletic stance, loads back with short stride. Decent lower half and good balance throughout swing. Level, line drive swing with power to his pull side, exit velocity was 83.

Nick Lober, Osbourn Park
Lober is 6-1 and has an athletic frame. Throws from a high three-quarters arm slot with a short arm action, position velocity was 69. Average hands, fluid footwork and a clean exchange, pop times 2.33-2.42. Hits from right side from an athletic stance. Slight load back, short stride. Decent lower half and average balance throughout swing. Level, inside out swing that works gap to gap, exit velocity was 88.

Richard Ortiz, C.D. Hylton
Ortiz is 5-9 and has a strong lower half. Short, loose arm action with an average arm, position velocity of 73. Soft hands, quick footwork, and a quick, clean exchange, pop times 2.15-2.26. Hits from right side with open stance. No load, leg kick stride, explosive lower half and average balance throughout swing. Fast bat and good approach, gets extension and has home run power to his pull side, exit velocity was 96.

Miles Watson, Tallwood
Watson has an athletic 5-10 frame. Over the top arm slot, short, loose, quick arm action and carry on throws, position velocity of 75. Soft hands, quick fluid footwork, quick clean exchange, pop times 2.03-2.15. Aggressive back-picker with quick release. Hits from left side with open stance. Smooth load back and leg kick stride. Explosive lower half with good balance. Fast bat with a short, uphill swing path with extension through the ball. Pull approach with power potential. Exit velocity was 88.
